Parsi dishes has got a different identity all together!
One interesting story about Parsis in India - Their ship reached Navsari in Gujrath and they find it difficult to communicate to local people. Then the king on Navsari send a cup of milk to them. Their leader added a bunch of sugar into milk and send it back which means, if your community is as good as milk, we will gel with you like how sugar dissolved in milk and make your community more sweet! No idea, whether this is a myth but from very humble beginning they have made significant contribution to our country - Tatas, Godrej, Poonawala - - - -
Ohhh -- coming back to our topic of interest - Its about a non veg parsi dish - Mutton Dhansak!
I know two places in Pune where you can have this a) Zamus Place in Dhole Patil Road and b) Bounty Sizzler in Kalyani Nagar. I will go for Zamus because of cost factor and I found it more delicious. Are you planning to go today itself??? No friends - it is available only on Sundays (in both places) and that two during the lunch time. If you go after 2 PM, you might have to wait till next Sunday as the demand for the dish is more than supply and might be the Parsi uncle never want to prepare more as he might want to keep the demand factor grow up.
Mutton Dhansak is made of lentils (daal), vegetables, spices, cumin seeds, ginger, garlic etc. Among the Parsi community, Dhansak usually contains mutton, chicken or lamb in addition to the lentils and vegetables.I strongly recommend Mutton Dhansak and if you have never tasted it, you might wonder - Daal and Mutton - How this combination taste???? Believe me, its amazing. It is some what similar to the Dalcha. Also, it is served with special rice having two round shaped vegetable roll (it is not so big and long like a cylinder but it looks like a small ball). And another speciality is the large quantity of onion salad which you get along with this. It is unlimited.
In Zamus Mutton Dhanksak along with rice and salad cost around Rs.90/- to Rs.100/- where as in Bounty it will cost you around Rs.150/-. One plate is enough for two people with normal appetite.
And in Zamus you can have Beer / hot drinks along with Dhansak ( I personally do not recommned).
So - any one who want to have the taste of Parsi Dish - plan for Zamus.
My earlier review was about Southern Spice & Vohuman Cafe. Both these places are near to Zamus (Max 1 KM away)
