Story:

I would like to begin my review by quoting a few lines from the book itself:In the words of a Persian sage: Love is a disease, no one wants to get rid of it. Those who catch it never try to get better, and those who suffer it do not wish to be cured.I had read THE ALCHEMIST which is indeed very popular today. After reading I had decided to read as many Paulo Coelo books as possible because they hold so much meaning. I found so many paragraphs in the book that totally co-relate to our lives. In fact, the book can be a cause to change one's life all together. Paulo Coelo talks about understanding love, finding yourself and following your heart. The main theme of the book is LOVE. Paulo Coelo has a very peculiar style writing. It is mostly present tense and short sentences. He has written it in first person. Throughout the book, he does not reveal the name of the main character who is a renowned author. This book clearly shows that Paulo Coelo has put himself into the situation of the main character. This will prove even more apt because he has dedicated the book to his his wife. He also talks of his earlier publication like 'The Alchemist' and 'The Pilgrimage' in this book. He talks about what it is like to be great author. What is his celebrity life like? How he manages to write a book with so much philosophy? These are some of the questions he answers. But these are the sub-topics he deals with. He mainly shows how his wife made him identify himself. How she made him pursue his dream. If it hadn't been for her, he would never be an author. How she readily sacrifices everything just so that her husband will realise what he is. She leaves him alone and disappears. The other alerting thing about this book is it's title. It is an awfully well chosen title that reflects every sentence written in the book. The ZAHIR has numerous meanings, but the way Coelo has used it to explain his obsession, to explain how we humans give up what we should do - is really commendable. The Zahir fills all of us, it fills the empty space inside us, it compels us stay away from the divine power of love, to be free. This books is more than just a book. I leave the rest for you to discover by reading the book yourself. When I read this book, initially I felt that it was incomplete, it was sort of wierd. But as I read on, as I understood his message, the book became more and more intriguing. It is touching and thought provoking. A true masterpiece.
