Yuva is the latest from Mani Ratnam- arguably India's finest director..All his films even a turkey like Dil Se have had magical moments..and Yuva is without doubt one of his better efforts regardless of the mixed reviews this film has been generating..

I wouldn't like to delve too much in the story of the film as it has already been dealt in depth in other reviews. The film basically is a story of 3 young people who have quite dissimilar ideas and idealogies about life in general and their goals and objectives in particular..How they meet and what change their meeting brings in them is the crux of the story..

More than the story what holds your attention is the way the story has been told or the screenplay of the film..Mani Ratnam has the uncanny ability to pack in a lot in a very few scenes..with some crisp dialogues and fast cuts he is quickly able to establish his 3 main characters- Abhishek bacchan as Lallan, Ajay devgun as Michael and Vivek oberoi as Arjun..and being a movie the heroes must surely have their love interests as well and so u have Rani, Esha and kareena playing their respective sweethearts..

Yuva is technically superb with some lush cinematography by Ravi k Chandran who almost makesKolkatta the 4th main protagonist of Yuva, great stunts- the preclimax on the bridge is absolutely brilliant!!realistic sets by Sabu Cyrill and excellent sound and editing..(though the last half hour barring the fight on the bridge drags)..

This film definitely proves once and for all that Abhishek Bacchan is here to stay..His role which to be frank is absolutely black..with no signs of redemption has been seen before in earlier films like Satya, Company etc. but its the small nuances that he brings to this role which makes it special..be it his swaggering walk, his smouldering eyes or his rustic talk..he breathes life into Lallan..his interaction with Rani is splendid..

Ajay devgun brings a lot of maturity to his role..he could have so easily hammed in the role of a revolutionary student leader but he is restrained and assured and brings a lot of dignity to his part..However the role does seem an extension of his ''the legend of bhagat singh''but Mani Ratnam deft touches prevents it from getting tiresome..

Vivek has the funniest lines in the movie and without a doubt his role too is an extension of the role he played in Saathiya..His romantic track with Kareena though a tad fantastic is great fun to watch..He breezes through his part and Kareena tries hard not to overact which is praiseworthy...

The combo of Rahman and Mani Ratnam always spells magic..films like Bombay, Dil Se and Alaiyaputhey bore testimony to the fact..and Yuva too is no exception..especially the title track which adds a lot of energy and vitality to the movie..Khuda Hafiz and Fanaa song too are pretty good!!!

To sum it up..Yuva is a must see film though die hard fans of films like Mein hun naa might not like it too much it has enough spunk and power to impress a large section of people...GO FOR YUVA...CHEERS to Mani Ratnam and his team!!!
