A Mani Ratnam movie, and music by A.R.Rahman.
Ajay Devgan, Vivek Oberoi, Abhisek Bacchan, Rani Mukherjee, Esha Deol, Kareina Kapoor, Om Puri...whew....its a megamovie starcast.
With above strengths, who would'nt watch the movie? Moreover the hype that came along with the movie, obviously this got all of us rushing to the theatre.
Mani Ratnam movie are always obscure, though they are all directorial masterpiece. Technically the movie was very good.It was amazing the see KOLKATA from a new angle.
Since I am from Kolkata, obviously I had a tremendous curiousty to view how Mani Ratnam would project this city.
Now whenever I walk past the areas shown in the movie, I would really admire the beauty of the Ganges,Howrah Bridge II,Howrah,Esplanade etc. Earlier we use to consider these places very crowded and polluted, but after the watching the movie perhaps we are going to view it from another angle.....
Apparently Mani Ratnam tried to piece together stories of 3 youths leading different life.In a sense its like watching 3 movies......in the advertising world it can be said: BUY 1 TAKE 3......
Ajay Devagan was the most confident of the lot in his acting. His persona, aura and charisma was really worth watching. Esha Deol had a miniscule role, but playing the lady love to Devgan made her role look signuficant.
Vivek Oberoi and Kareina Kapoor have repeated themselves with stereotype characters. They had nothing to prove in their respective roles....
The surprise package of the movie is Abhisek Bacchan. His role is powerful and he emoted very well. There were traces of the angry man image of his father the superstar Amitabh Bacchan. If the movie is worth watching the second time. It will perhaps be because of Abhisek. Infact I am sure if if there is ever a film festival of Abhisek Bacchan movies in future, Yuva will be one of the several movies....
Rani Mukherjee plays her role well. But she has played the role of a bengali wife earlier in Hey Ram, hence the freshness of the role was not there.
The best part of the movie was when we get to see the youths i.e Devgan and Oberoi entering the parliament in Jeans. This perhaps was the message Ratnam wanted to convey........
AR RAHMAN delivers an obsure music...and its just right for a Mani Ratnam movie.
Though obscure in parts, its still worth watching.....
