Yu Yunicorn is the latest smartphone from the Yu televentures. It is priced in under 15k price segment. It faces stiff competition from the Xiaomi, LeEco and others which have their offering in this price segment.
Design: Yu Yunicorn comes with an all metal build the device is very good in looks. It looks somewhat similar to Meizu note 3. Yu brings some changes in design language. The saturn ring of camera and power button sandwich between volume rocker is gone. Front is dominated by the display panel. The fingerprint scanner is below the display above it there are earpiece, front camera, usual set of sensors. 3.5mm jack is present at the top of smartphone and microUSB port and speaker are present at the bottom part. Rear has the brushed metal finish camera is present at the rear top. The device is a good looking and build quality is also good.
Display: 5.5inch full HD display is looks good on papers. But the display is on softer side. It doesn't offer sharp display quality. Brightness and viewing angles are also just average. It comes with display tweaking modes but they can't help much. The display is below average in this segment.
Camera: It comes with a 13MP rear and 5MP front set of cameras. Camera looks promising on paper but it offers very less in daily life. The picture taken by the rear camera is just average and it captures lots of noise in low lightning. Front camera is good and done its job well. Overall the camera offers very less and comes out below average.
Software: Yu Yunicorn comes Android Lollipop and over it ships with its a few customization skin. Which yu called AOS( Android on Steroids) . It very much same to rhe stock Android and only a few customization over it. But the UI is not smooth and stutters.
Performance: The device is shipped with MediaTek Helio P10 chipset along with 4GB of mega RAM and 16GB of Internal storage. On paper the device looks like a multitasking beast with 4GB of RAM in this budget. Yes it can handle multitasking but not very heavy. The device performs below average when considering the competition. It doesn't make you go wow by its performance it strictly average for its price.
Battery: The device comes with a whooping 4000mAh battery. The battery life is very good and enough juice to survive a day on heavy usage and yet some juice left.
Verdict: Yu Yunicorn is not a smartphone to consider in this price bracket. The competition offers much more value for your money. The devices is a good looking comes with decent built. Display, camera and performance are below average. Yiu should consider other smartphones like LeEco Le 2, Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 and their likes.
