Rocks, atleast in Bangalore... Review on Youtelecom

I took You Telecom Broadband plan of Tornado 24 Mbps and paid for 3 months package thereby getting the installation charges waived off.  They do charge a non-refundable one time fees for the Port which they place in your premises.

The installation took more than the promised number of days but once connection was done, the speed was too good to believe.  Downtime has not occurred so far from the day I took this connection which is about a month now.

The speed drops to about 20 Mbps some times but most of the time, it is above 24 Mbps speed as tested in speedtest.net.

I still have Airtel BB as a backup and not yet cancelled their services.  The speed is seen when loading websites rich in flash especially, youtube videos are streamed without any break.  Even the HD videos in youtube play seamlessly. I have not tested their other speeds, so I cannot comment on them.

Their customer care executives take details in full just like any Bank customer care, they do not understand that they are a service provider, taking only the important details needed for the problem would suffice.  As with other ISPs, they promise to rectify the problem in 24 hours time.  Anyway, I am in touch with some of the technicians and their Area Manager and I talk to them directly.

If you have problems, please visit their local office and take their help face to face, this is the best and only working solution for any ISP to perform their duties.  Even though we have advanced technologically, it is still preferable to make a personal visit the first time.

Before signing off, I would like to point out that they do not give any router, you need to purchase one of your choice.  I purchased TP Link's TL-WR740N from Flipkart.com for a price of Rs 1035.  The installation cannot be done without technical support from the ISP as they have to lock the MAC address of the wireless unit in their server.  I wasted one whole day trying to install it myself.  The ISP does not give the wifi router free of cost but they can give it to you for Rs 1650 for a Linksys model.  Since they were not in stock with them, I had to purchase it myself after much research.

This model is more than enough for the broadband purpose.  I connect one netbook, 3 android devices and the LAN cable goes into my Laptop, I do not find any drop in the speeds.
