Long hiatus! Making a comeback of sorts is difficult.and especially when it is a star comeback. Ganguly managed it and Amitabh managed it.but they were bigger stars any day! I can just try;-)

“You’ve got mail" is the film I watched again recently. I saw it first with my family in a theatre.Before you get to logical deductions, let me be insightful:

  1. My family is not into movie- viewing-leisure type activities. We usually plan for a movie once a six month and only when everyone around has seen/read/written/loved/recommended(in that order). The last film we watched as family- family was not Family but "Black".which surely tells you that we need a strong enough reason to watch a film.

  2. No, we are not the one who just watch English films.I assure you that I cannot distinguish between the Richard Gere’s and Will Smith’s of Hollywood or Kishan Kumar’s and  Kunal Khemu’s of apna Bollywood…but yes if a film is pretty high on popularity and is a prestige issue…we don’t care about the language! "Titanic" was the first and this the second on that esteemed list.no sequels, no further exceptions.

So you get the drift now?

Err.looks like I myself got confused.this film did not fit in any of the above reasons/thoughts. .we watched it only because the person who got the tickets( We never stand in Q's and book tickets.we ask others to do it!), did just what we asked.he got the tickets for 630 show on a Wednesday night, not realizing that Wednesdays 630 is English slot.

You guessed it right.we watched the film!

*The Film

*-

The plot of the film is not complex. It is a film based on internet romances, friendships and life. Tom Hanks plays Joe Fox who is a big businessman on its way to buy out a small book store owned by Kathy played by Meg Ryan.

The film is about how they fight in real life and finds solace(unintentionally) in their online friendship which they later realize is blossoming into love.

Actors

*-

Tom and Meg both are fine actors and they deliver good performances. Meg looks like her part of being a strong yet option less woman who tries hard but fails. Tom looks rather a somber businessman who is not shrewd but is not sitting for charity. The equation between the two fluctuates from friendship to hatred to confusion to acceptance beautifully.

The film itself was not a disaster.except that the when the kissing scene in the end started, my dad just did not react.which does'nt mean that he was too engrossed.it just meant that he could not react to the feeling.not of being kissed but of the fact that the film is over!

*Internet Friendships and love

* -

The first time I saw the film, I am sure of not even having an email ID of my own. So the film was as alien and as romantic as an M&B novel. The enigma of being in a relationship on internet was a crazy thought and the concept was acceptable if I was either sitting in States or just not the kind of person who could find a relation in the real world!

Yesterday when I saw the film again, things had changed. The online world was not alien, the enigma no longer existed and the acceptability had increased. The film made a lot more sense to me than it would have been the first time around. The concept of chatting, meeting up with first time net friend, worrying if it is just another man/woman…and not the trusted friend you had imagined…the film deals with all…
