I use and own two Yezdi motorcycles. One a D250 Classic and the other a Roadking. It is impossible to compare both these bikes as they a diferent in any which way you look at it. The styling, engine capacity, power output, handling, riding posture, electricals are totally different.


Styling : Please visit https://yezdi.com and see for yourself. Nothing like it if you can actually see one yourself. If needed I shall mail a couple of photographs to you and you can see the difference yourself. To start the headlight dome is a wraparound unit on the D250 whereas on a roadking its an all independent uint. The Fuel tank styling and capacity is also totally different.


D250 can hold 13 litres of gas whereas the Roadking can hold 16 Litres. The reserve capacity is also a bit more in a Roadking. The handlebar is also different and so is the sticker job.


Engine Capacity : Technically the Roadking is 2 CC less than the D 250 but the output power is a full 3 Bhp more than a D 250. The Roadking simply flies. The ignition system is also different. The Roadking being a bit more modern with CDI ignition and the D250 using good old points to bring a spark to the plug. The top speeds for both the bikes are also different. The Roaking can be tuned to hit speeds over 121 Kmph. My bike can reach this speed. The D250 starts to strain at around 65 Kmph whereas the Roadking feels very relaxed even at 80 Kmph


Handling : For some reason I prefer the D250 in this department. The bike feels more heavy and more glued to the road. The Roadking feels very light at any given speed and I don?t seem to get the same amount of confidence to take a corner at speed with my Roadking. I have not fallen on either of these bikes but I am slowly pushing my Roadking into more sharp corners just to know if it will break lose. However braking is miles ahead on a Roaking; well as far as application goes; the braking results are a different story altogether. The wheels lockup much more easily on a Roadking compared to D250 and I guess thats cause of lighter body weight.


Riding Posture : This goes to the Roadking. I try and do long bike rides whenever I can. Though I will not rule out the fact that my back does hurt riding either of these bikes; it is more comfortable to do a long ride on a Roadking.


Electricals : Roadking is miles ahead in this department. The D250 employs a 6 Volt electrical system whereas the Roadking uses a 12 Volt system. Both bikes do not require a battery to be present for cranking the engine. The difference can be noticed only when you blast your horn and when you ride at night. The poor beam quality on the D250 will have you strain your eyes on a dark stretch of road; even with a halogen bulb. On the Roadking even a regular bulb is more than enough to light up a pitch dark street.


I use a halogen and the headlamp unit is very bright. There is also a very big difference between the reflective systems used between a D250 and Roadking. I guess this is one of the main reasons I get better beam focus on the Roadking. Speedometer bulbs and tail light bulbs will keep blowing. I have now installed a brand called ?Comet? on my tail lamp and its been a month now and it has not fused. The cheap regular bulbs will pop on a Roadking the very moment you gun the bike on an open stretch of raod.


Mileage : This is a tricky one. I have been told a Roadking can give 35 Kms/Litre. I have managed 31 riding at an average speed of 75 Kmph. Also; it is often said that a Roadking gives better figures than a D250. Its not exactly the case with my bike. Maybe its cause my D250 is stock tuned and my Roadking isn?t. What I have realised in the D250 is; any which way you wring the throttle the difference you lose or gain on mileage is around 2 Kms/Litre. My Roadking has been somewhat a shocker.


On days I feel like riding fast (Thats everyday cause the route to my workplace begs for speed and death) which means nothing under 100 Kmph the bikes mileage drops all the way down to 24 Kms/Litre. Let me also remind you that the ratio in which my Roadking is tuned is more towards performace than fuel economy. Moreover my Roadking has not been tuned for any idling whereas my D250 has an idling level set which means the Roadking drinks more gas everytime you wring the throttle to mild rpms at a traffic light just to keep the engine running.


The small tubes that sit inside my Roadking muffler have been removed too so the bike makes an awesome racket and smokes a bit more than my D250. However I believe that removing those tubes also relate to more power as the exhaust is nearly free flow but this will also get the bike to drink more gas.


Reliability : Both bikes are rock steady. Once a full service has been carried out you need send the bike back to the mechanic only after another 5000 kms. Parts are very cheap but I guess that applies only to Bangalore. and Mysore. Cables do snap very often on the bike (Clutch, Throttle and Rear Brake). Because of this I have used better and thicker quality cables on both mbikes and since then it has never snapped. Its been a year now. The original cables will let you down every 2 months or maybe even less. This best Reliabilty for a Yezdi can only be achieved from a proper mechanic and I am lucky to have the same. Even on breakdowns (3 in a little over 2 years) my mechanic comes and attends to the bike where ever I am.


The other useful thing about this bike is the Auto Clutch but this needs to be set by the mechanic. The clutch need be used only to start from first gear. You need not use the clutch to shift gears in either direction. A Yezdi can also be riden without a clutch. There is a way of starting the bike from standstill using first gear and not have the bike jerk for take off.


Finally a Yezdi will not give up on you if you listen to the bike everyday and at every second. One my last long ride with my Roadking which was around 290 Kms the bikes gearbox oil had leaked completely but nothing happened to the gearbox components. I guess this is because there was no strain on the gearbox as I was in 4th gear all along crusing on the highway.
