My first memories of feeling the wind in my air and the illusion of flying on unseen wings were when I was a 4yr old. Thanks to my Dad, the petrol tank of YEZDI was my throne for FOUR beautiful years!! When I travel in the safe confines of my 4-wheelers today, my heart yearns to feel that zest of being back on the YEZDI. That’s how emotionally attached I am to this motorbike and while writing this revu I’m really traveling back…I’m on TIME MACHINE

####################

Yezdi’s History:

IDEAL JAWA (INDIA) LIMITED started on the mission to manufacture mobikes way back in the 1960s. Hats off to them that we had a product that defined value for money. This was mainly for those consumers who valued their hard-earned money and the returns they got with IJL’s products (read the Yezdi Collection, here) were commendable. Their logo, “ ForEver Bike ForEverValue” says it all!! IJL started designing their own brand of vehicles under the name “Yezdi” in 1968.

The YEZDI Feel…

“If u have dare then u have Yezdi!” That was the style-statement associated with the Yezdi brand and that was the feel of those mean machines! My revu is mainly associated with past tense because I’m taking in context with the Yezdi I’d known in the 1980s. There are a lot more mean machines;) these days but, Yezdi still has it’s own Class! The reliable & durable Yezdi engine has stayed on the road for the past 40 years and I’d go out to the extent of saying that Yezdi’s here to stay for at least the next 10 years. This one sure is a Classic bike, if U ask me! This one’s a damn hard rock bike to ride and is meant for those who look at life as a challenge.

p.s.:Hey! U guys may have spotted Sharukh Khan atop this beauty in Kabhi Haan, Kabhi Naa… didn’t ya?

Presenting YEZDI CL II, For You…

Since the revu is about this War Horse, I may as well get to the point. The latest market record shows that this Vintage & Classic bike was sold out for Rs.5500/-, a second-hand version, of course. This one’s not as hard or let’s call it mean as The Roadking. But, it’s as well a beauty in itself like most ‘durable’ Yezdis. This one’s a tough bike that’s built keeping the Indian road conditions (especially the rural) in mind, manufactured to last a lifetime at an affordable price.

The Technicalities for those who make sense out of it

Here on, let me admit is nothing of my creation. It’s the manufacturers manual that’s talking here in the number crunching terms to those to whom it matters.

Performance:

Keeping in mind the present scenario, a well maintained Yezdi CL II could give an Acceleration of 4.6secs(0 to 60kmph) with a max. gradability of 25 with flying start of 20kmph in first gear. The max. speed as 110 Kmph.

The Gear box boasts of 4 speed constant mesh and the Clutch is 5 friction plates running in oil bath automatically operated during gear changing.

Taking a closer look at the Suspension, the FRONT has Telescopic suspension for Hydraulic Travel- 130mm and the REAR has Hydraulic Shock Absorbers Travel-100mm. Trust me, those really matter!! : )

The BRAKING DISTANCE from 40 kmph speed using both brakes is 9.8mtrs with the front and rear 160mm Brake each.

Battery:      12V; 5 AH, (-Ve)earth

Head Lamp Bulb 12V; 35W/35W (I was in love with this one!)

Tail Lamp Bulb 12V; 5W

Ignition Timing 23 +/- 2 BTDC at 3000 RPM

Spark Plug Micro W 175 or MODI CHAMPION L 87 Yc

ENGINE

A 2 stroke, Air cooled Engine rules the Yezdi CL II. Single cylinder with a 248.50cc (cubic capacity) to be specific. A torque of 2.1 Kgm at 3500 RPM tells us about those efficient twisting and rotating this machine can handle. and I vouch for this coz it’s been more than once that I’ve seen dad handle this one on the ghats.Another noteworthy fact of Yezdi CL II is the Primary Kick Start(i.e. can be started in any gear by depressing the clutch).

The Kerb weight(including fuel) makes this a 141 Kg monster and u really need to pump up those irons coz this is no child’s play!

Limitation:

The only problem with owning this one is getting the original parts. Not many shops are still having a good deal of them of late. I wish there’s a change in this scenario soon enough coz it’d be a shame if we didn’t have one of these on the roads anymore!
