Customer Service:

I opened a Yes First priority account. I earlier had been a HSBC Premier customer, but their service has deteriorated and as soon as I withdrew some funds and went below the AQB, they switched me to a normal account. So I was looking for an account which provided superior service.

I applied for a normal account. When their representatives came to my home, they explained about the Yes First service, and that there is not really a minimum AQB, rather one should open the account with a certain amount. So I decided to give it a go.

The opening process was simple enough, they took the document from my home and the account was opened.

Within a week or so, my RM called and messaged me a few times to say that he would come to my home to set up internet banking for me. I told him there was no need, I know how to do it. He insisted. When  I told him I had already set it up, he said he wanted to come and talk about some other products.

So I accepted and he came. Basically he was trying to sell me a Max Life insurance policy. He spoke to me as if I don't know what these policies are, how they work and like I haven't previously taken one.

Initially I just told him I would think about it. This was a mistake. Its better to state there and then that you're not interested. He called me the next day to ask if I was ready to take it. I was busy. He then whatsapped me a few times, requesting to take the policy, not so much because it was a great product, but to help HIM out as they were reaching month end and needed to boost their figures.

This is the worst thing in my opinion. No regard as to whether I want the product, but pushing it for your own benefit. I sent him a message clearly stating, that I know what these products are, I already have two policies and I definitely do not want anymore. I also explained that my experience of banking, living in another country previously, the bank staff do not push any products on customers and certainly do not ask for help. They're the ones who are supposed to offer help.

So he subsequently has not asked me to purchase this policy again. He has however started messaging me to increase my balance. At first I ignored him, as I will deposit funds whenever I am ready to. However I have now replied to him informing him that as far as I know, bank accounts are not only for building balances(especially to satisfy their monthly and year end accounts), but surprise surprise money can also be withdrawn from them!

I suppose its my fault for opening the stupid priority account. Its been of no use so far. My expectation was simply to be treated better and have a fast track service. I wonder though if I had opened a normal account, if they would still bug me to invest and increase my balance? Who cares now, I will switch the funds to another bank, who have so far never bugged me once.
