Deliberately Not-So-Great Hill Station. Review on Yeracaud

Dont get deceived by anyone telling u theres nothing much to do in Yercaud - even though they might be telling you the truth! Dont ask a localite whats really nice to see at Yercaud - cause you wont get anything out of them. Nothing's too great they all say - which is probably true.

Yercaud is a serene, beautiful, lush and cool place - one of the best places to be - with all the other places heating themselves up to atrocious temperatures. The flower show is an reaonably good effort by local organisations to attract the tourist lot to the place for a week. Frankly the show is not too great. Thats something you go from Salem to watch - not from any far place like Hyd or Blr.

Contrary to popular opinion - I feel thats the wrong time to visit Yercaud (if u r my type of visitor, that is). Long, peaceful walks, are disturbed by rash traffic, interesting observations of local life are marred by altercations with trickster auto drivers (never take an auto in yercaud to go around!) and silence of the evenings by the lake side is annihilated by the blaring songs from a make-shift theater to entertain the crowds.

Our other friends have given you the list of things to see and all that. So I wont waste any more words on that topic.

Please go to Yercaud only to rejuvenate yourself - Dont expect the place to give you anything more than refreshing air in your lungs. Forget about all the lists of places - just walk. And keep the plastic and paper with you until you reach your hotel room and throw it in the waste basket there. Drive only if you have to - no distance or hike is too much to walk. And if you are driving - please try not to honk except when you are going down the hill to Salem.

I loved my stay at Yercaud, and I will return some day - in the off-season time - to better enjoy my stay.
