White mist swirling towards you, in a matter of moments you are enveloped by ....nothing! You cannot see your hand which is held out in front of you. Frightening? You Bet! Fascinating? Yes, yes, yes!
This is Yercaud, not a very 'with it' hill station, but addictive all the same.
A week-end get away from Bangalore, through the oppressive heat of Salem. A lovely drive through winding hair pin curves. Mysterious ravines and the odd shrines add to the quaintness of the drive.
Stock a lot of bananas for the hordes of monkeys on the way and watch their antics, this probably is the only action you will see till you return.
I am not going to tell you about the various 'seats' and 'points' (they are fine), because they are nothing extraordinary.
We tried out some of the hotels ther like Shevaroys (good) but settled on the Grange. Surrounded by plantations, you can rediscover yourself, spouse, children here.
Forget your car and walk all you can, eat from the smallest 'thattu kadais', mingle with the locals, take part in the local festivals....in short do absolutely nothing and feel great about it.
We attended a school function and were welcomed by all. Ended up by givig away prizes to the little tykes, much to the amusement of the parents.
Instead of exhorbitantly priced yoga or meditation resorts or spas, give Yercaud a look in. Same results with more fun!
