General: Yelagiri is nicely accessible from Chennai & at around 4 hrs drive distance. Good roads; Climate is not very different

than from Chennai during Summer especially in May when we  traveled to the place. Night is a bit more pleasant, that’s all. Not much to see around -else, if you have a good resort to stay and pass time with your folks away from the daily hazzle dazzle, this is a simple good place. Trekking options are there. We just went for a couple of hours up hill walking early in the morning. That was good indeed. Fresh fruits like Jack fruit, Mango, Pomegranate, Seetha phal etc could be got cheap. So too, we can take with us good/pure wild honey.

Stay: We stayed for a night and 2 less-than-full days at O Nila Resorts during May 2010. Let me make it short and to the point, and may I re-iterate this is just based on 1 night stay by our group of 4.

Positives:Good food- variety is slightly less in non-veg, but otherwise found it more homely and like-able by the taste buds of all of us. Service was very good too.  It was buffet type & was organized rather fine. Good ambiance with quite some lawn area, swimming pool, badminton court, children’s play area, walk ways, small ground etc. Good service by the staff both in room, outside and restaurant.

The Not so good: Cottage quality is strictly average, bathrooms were ok, but the inside of rooms looked some what old and lacking good maintenance. It was a 2 bed room+ Kitchen(with nothing inside whatsoever)+ Sitting room type that we took. Signals in the TV in our cottage was worse - don’t know what was the source - dish or local cable. A/c cottages are limited or perhaps not there at all it seems - at least we didn’t get it even when we asked for it. The area suffers badly from frequent power cuts. But the resort has back up generator. For us the genereter room(Yes, I mean it. Such spellings we did find in quite few corners around the resort area. Another funny sight was "Don’t plug the flowers. Pluck they meant, for sure) was next door to our bed room and so had to live with the crappy noise for quite an amount of time.(Thank you! God saved us during the night hours though)Car Parking is quite hap hazard- we had to run behind them to ensure we can take it out when we wanted to take our car out early in morning to move around the near by area. Manager was kind enough he helped us as well as saved from further exchange of words with the rather-confused security guy out there. Swimming pool was crowded; cleanliness was questionable so we didn’t even try to venture in.

Of course, I realize I have written more no. of negatives than positives, but overall I find that our stay and food, which are those that contribute more to our one-word verdict about the place & our stay. Rates: I find it bit to the high side. But as I see in some other review, and realize too, I think they are more dependent on weekend revenue and hence could not help us to get a better rate.
