Unlike the other melodramatic mush that is Kuch Kuch hota hai, Dharma Productions comes up with an updated version of that template. Thankfully, yahaan bohath kuch hota hai!

OK before the review, please go by the trailers, it promises to be a mushy romantic buddy movie and not Wake up Sid. And that's exactly what it is. I think its one of the few films which actually deliver on their promise. It doesn't suffer from any identity crisis. Its clear.

Now for the plot. It begins with Naina scooting off on a vacation with Bunny, Aditi and Avi to a hill station. And a after a few warm moments, songs and some bromance, Naina falls for Bunny. But he doesn't see Naina in his life.  The group reunites at a wedding after a few years. And Bunny faces the same ordeal he did on that trip. What does he choose - Naina or his'raftaar bhari' life?

For a plot that is so predictable, the movie moves harmlessly. There are some really good moments,  like that bitter sweet end to a friendship, the intermission scene( elevated by the edgy camera work and the music) and of course the holiday portion of the movie.

ON the flip side, the plot is predictable. Some of the lines delivered esp. by Ranbir are cheesy to the point of me howling" Oh brother.shut up now!" The major conflict in the movie is easily resolved. Not that I don't like to see optimism and simple solutions to problems in life, but, Ayan Mukherjee, could have handled that better.

The cast for the most part is excellent. Ranbir(has done this role twice!) is the man for the job. Vulnerable and the charming extrovert Bunny most of us like to be around or just be! Kalki Koechlin does a great a job as the tomboy and then the bride. Aditya Roy Kapoor repeats his drunk act, but shares a good chemistry with the gang. But surprise surprise! Its Deepika Padukone as Naina who caught my eye completely. Although it isn't the most challenging of roles, she does a perfect 180 turn from a timid nerd to this sexy, strong headed woman. The supporting cast is more than adequate.

A word on the chemistry Ranbir and Deepika have. Not to sound like a romantic, I think they seem to have fallen for each other during the making of this movie! Especially Deepika, I saw and felt Naina pining for Bunny!

Technically, the movie has a lot of plusses. Lush, scenic photography and some expensive party scenes, designer clothes. Superficial sure. but its fun sometimes! Music is a plus here. I am not a fan of Pritam. But, since Barfi and now YJHD, really foot tapping songs and excellent background score. My favorites are Batameez dil and Kabira.

Devoid of unnecessary violence and crude humour, its a warm and unfussy story told in an unfussy manner. This movie is definitely worth going for with family, or better yet with a date or some friends! Like I said, its one of the better 100+ crore films!
