I am a not so proud owner of a YBX for the last 3 years now. I even regret the day I had thought of buying it.

From the day I purchased it, my bike was not aligned properly... while driving it always has a tendency of veering to the left. This is extremely dangerous. I has taken the bike for repairs to the dealer on a number of occasions during the warrantee period... the dealer did something but the problem never got solved.

Being quite irritated, I took up the matter directly with Escorts Yamaha. They told me to show this bike to their special representative at the dealers... who also acknowledged that these is an alignment problem with the bike. Again the bike was kept for servicing.... but no real improvement.

Another point is the poor efficiency of the bike. It has never given me more that 45 kmpl. I also took up this issue with Escorts, who assured that the bike should give me at least 60 kmpl, but however they were not able to do anything. Logic tells me that if a 2 stroke non geared scooter like Kinetic Honda can claim 50 kmpl, then a 4 stroke bike should be able to deliver definitely slightly more.

There are also some major design flaws with the bike.

  1. The seat - I have not seen a single YBX whose seat has not torn from the rear end stitches within the first year.

  2. The plastic cover over the rear tail lamp - This also breaks very frequently if one drives with a pillion rider. This I guess is because with a pillion, the weight of the seat falls on this piece which cracks just above the screw holding it.

  3. Another major flaw is the ergonomics. For a relatively tall person driving the bike, the legs do not form a perfectly right angle for the rear brake and clutch lever. The rear brake and clutch lever pedals are ever so slightly slightly positioned at the back, so your leg forms an acute angle. This causes pain to the legs on long drives.

The only positive point is the power, which is relatively higher than other bikes in this category... but what is the use of this power on such busy Indian roads?

I put the matter to rest and decided to
