I was looking to buy a bike with a decent power and economy. And most importantly, to go to a brand other than Hero Honda, Bajaj.. Just for the engine, the ride and the brand name! Honda and Yamaha were the brands I shortlisted. I tried out Honda Shine first.. and was very much satisfied with the review that I even booked one! But, the waiting time for that bike was a whopping 90 days.. Am I going to buy a Bullet??? Dropped Honda.. Next option was Yamaha! I entered a Bikerz showroom nearby.. Just the sight of the showroom made me feel, "if I am gonna buy a bike, it must be Yamaha". First bike which caught my eyes was R15. (Bajaj must try to produce at least fairing of R15). But due to the high cost and mileage factor, I cudnt go for those bikes including FZ.

After reading reviews, asking friends, I decided to buy the SS-Turned-Gladiator version. It beat hands-on Honda Shine and other counterparts in many features, importantly the price. In the showroom, I test drove both the bikes - Yamaha SS 125 and SZ-X.The latter had more powerful pickup and comfort. But, the parts were looking cheap (no disc as well). SS 125 had genuine and good parts. the finishing was good too! I felt, to try with a new one, the more known gladly looking SS would be better in reliability!

I have always liked to ride my friend's gladiator. But now, after my friend rode on my bike, He feels the engine is lot more refined than his 2009 model. The one important positive u take from this bike is the ride quality and handling. This is what most of us forget to look at, on seeing the other features. I learnt this from my other friend, who had got a Discover. It was in fact costly than Splendor. He dint look at the price, now he feels why he spent so much for that butt-paining seat and suspension. So people, look at comfort first and foremost.

And, regarding the mileage thing, the service man in the showroom assured me that after the first service, I shall surely get over 55 and not below 50. Dont look over the mileage and dont ever lose this brilliance from Yamaha.

Happy biking.
