Yamaha Rx 100is bike having sheer power and performance.Even though it evolved during the late 80's its still the favorite of many riders of Y2K.Its really the dream machine of many youths. Its acceleration and stability is competent with any of the new generation bikes.

I am having a Rx100 of 88 make ,and truly many of its components are of Japan make sine early bikes were assembled in India using imported parts from Japan. So even now the bikes of late 80's costs much than that of 90's.

One of the important factor about this bike is its amazing acceleration and stability at higher speeds which seems to be lacking in many of the new generation bikes. Its gives full control over the machine at any speed. Its riding comfort is superb and could be used in any terrain. It gives hassle free ride for many years. Its pleasant sound (which may be disturbing to some people) and handling makes the true feeling of riding a motor bike which no other bike could offer.Another important feature is that it could be started in any gear and even it starts moving in the top gear.

Two things which causes frown in users is its mileage and pollution. But mileage is not a problem if the bike is properly maintained.I am getting a mileage of 47-52 Km/L (at an average speed of 55 - 60 Km/Hr ) which is much more than high performance new generation bikes.Pollution is another concern and it could be reduced by using good quality petrol and 2T oil and tunning the engine to its optimum ,which inturn increases the mileage.

I used to drive my bike on heavy traffic hours through the city and in the highways. In both the cases its a true performer. Its suitable for short rides as well as long rides.

I searched many times to get the technical specification but couldnt find anything official. But from un official sources I got a rough picture.

Technical Specification

Engine - 2 stroke

Cubic Capacity - 100cc (125cc*)

Power - 12.5 Bhp

Max Speed (solo) - 100+ Km/hr

Transmission - 4-speed

Mileage - 35-50 Km/L

Weight - 110 Kg

Electricals - 6V (12V**)

  • Bikes of late 80's were 125cc and not 100cc.

* Bikes of late 90's were 12 V.

Tips for Improving Performance

Always insist on full service of the bike every 5000 km. *Maintain the correct tyre pressure , which gives better acceleration and mileage. *If u want more power and pick up it could be achieved by minor adjustment in the carburettor during service, at the sacrifice of some mileage. *The sound produced could be changed by adjustments in the ' flute ' found in the silencer during service. *Try to use good quality fuel and 2T oil.

Tips for Improving Style

  • Use of short handles instead of original handle. * Using wider tyres at the rear.(Using wider tyres reduces mileage a bit. Wider tyres are not suited for front as it causes damage to the handle bearings). * Removing the bag placed over the petrol tank. * The bike could be remodelled to give a sporty look.

I would recommend this bike to any one who wants to rule the road as a king. Its for those who wants power and performance. Any one could ride this bike comfortably irrespective of age. Hence its truly the bike of '' Generations ''.
