I have test ridden R15, this is all in all an excellent small 'super sports bike'. Soon I am going to own one.

Will update you with my experience. I got this feeling, although the bike has good 'super sports' look;

Yamaha knowing tone down the fit and finish of the bike (most of the yamaha launched in India has the same issue (fit and finish) when compared to those higher capacity Yamaha's sold overseas (just compare the throttle grip of a Libero/RS/SS and that of an R1 or a V-Star, even a V-Max) (Never matches the fit finish of an Honda. Honda fit an finish is a class of its own, ex Honda Stunner, whether its a smaller 125cc or bigger 1500cc (goldwing).

Top fit and finish available only for high end models. Including R15 inside the cowl the the rubbers are cheap looking. The tip of the tail pipe is spray painted cheap plastic. The way it fitted also the way it looks also not good. Tail pipe end should have been more sporty, and clean looking.

I have a feeling Yamaha concentrate only on performance, and most of their Indian bike say as if

"I am like this only, if you like it you take it, otherwise go away" - maybe thats the reason Yamaha sales drops, and Yamaha looks like they are happy with it.

I still have brochures of Yamaha bikes introduced and sold in Japan/Europe/USA, in the late 70's and early 80's, I think those bikes are light years 'modern' than those Gladiators & Libero's & Crux's introduced by Yamaha in India (exception R15 and FZ16), I have a feeling Yamaha people knowingly do not want too much of sales in India.

Any man with some commonsense knows that a good looking, good peforming, well priced product sells, but people at the Yamaha taken it lightly, giving Indians Sub-standard ugly looking products all these years (Incl RX100, just have look at their overseas brochure for those small capacity bikes introduced overseas), and we foolish Indians celebrate RX100 as if its a 'Super Bike', RX100 or RX135 (I own one) is only a classic looking (On of the best looking at that) bike introduced by Yamaha in the late 70's, and simply resold here. Yamaha do not want too much of sales, due to the reasons unknown to us, we do not have to teach yamaha how to sell bikes, and how to make bikes, they know better than anyone else. If they are serious to have good sales figure, let them introduce more stylish, more well finished, with a good price (any one of the designs introduced overseas in the 80's and 90's would be fine - and they are much better looking than an FZ16. FZ16 too the plastic tank looks cheap when you look at it for a 30 minutes (Initial impression is great), otherwise its a great package. Good suspension, ride.
