I got my Yamaha Fazer 150CC -Limitied Edition(White and Blue) delivered on Sept 28th on the eve of dussera - In 2 weeks I drove for almost 120 kms and so far as expected no issues.
Earlier I drove a bajaj caliber for almost 7 years and during these 7 years the indian bike market has an complete makeover - We have seen and driven the bikes like Pulsars, Karizmas, CBZ , UNICORN.....etc and no where have seen Yahama making any news all these years and now when they are back they are back with a bang - First the R15, Next the FZ16 and now the Fazers.
On a whole the Fazer isn't any different from the FZ's except for the beauty - those who can afford an extra 8k for looks, style and bit of better driving comfort can opt for this bike over FZ. Otherwise techinally no difference between FZ and Fazer.
I have been surfing thru net and have seen lot of posting/reviews comparing Fazer with other bikes but no where have I seen it being compared with any of the 150cc bike - The comparision has always been with Karizma(223cc) , Pulsur 220cc and Apache 180cc rtr - And which is apt for the pricing done by Yamaha.
Personnely I drove Karizma and though its great but it lacks what Yamaha Fazer has got - The smooth engine, Acceleration, Driving comfort and above all contemporary looks - We have been seeing the same Karizma for almost ages now, every upgrade since the launch of the bike have been a minor sticker work - that's it - On the other hand I never had my hands on Pulsar 220 - but based on what I have heard for my friends and other users is that Pulsars definitly delivers better power but have not been consistent - Engins start giving trouble after 1 year or 2 years. We might see Pulsars taking over yamaha Fazers over highways but the same pulsar would not be able to do the same thing after 2 years against the same bike.Yamaha has always been know for its undisputed reliability
Based upon the above I made a decision to buy the fazer . So far though I haven't had my first servicing done and have not yet unleashed the real capabilities of the bike but somehow I still feel quite satisfied. The fine tuned engine the king like looks and the smooth riding comfort and Yamaha brand had made up for the short commings listed below
One drawback as most of the review pointed out is the rear mud guard - On a rainy day you can't afford to have someone sitting behind you. The other drawback that I have noticed is the lack of a kick start - for indian conditions and maintanace having a kick start is always handy - just in case of dried battaries you have to do the old fashoned run and start the bike - the third drawback is the tank capacity the bulky looking tank is actually capable of holding just 12ltrs.
On a whole I would recommend this bike to those who really appreciate contemporary looks , reliability over a period of time and consistent performance - This definitly is not the one for those who are faciniated by the tempory drags - Yamaha has also come up with racing kits for those who take facinations in temporary drags but again you would have shead few more thousands for an already quite costly bike.
