On a purely visual basis, the SCR950 is a winner. It’s got the right stance and plenty of cool retro details. Wire wheels ( 19” front/17” rear) wear knobby tires. A sub-frame has been added to the middle of the bike, resulting in a higher ( 32.7”) seating position on a flat padded seat. The side covers are oval, evoking the round number plates that were features of classic racing scramblers. Upswept 2-into-1 exhaust pipes wear a black coating accented with brushed aluminum heat shields. The front forks wear retro-looking rubber accordion boots to keep dust at bay. Mid-mount dirt bike-style footpegs are positioned for a flexible riding position and easy transition to a standing riding position. Fit and finish are first rate, and the bike looks great in two available two-tone paint schemes.
The engine comes directly from the Bolt. It’s a 942-cc ( 58-cubic inch) fuel-injected V-twin with a belt final drive and a five-speed manual transmission. The Bolt engine has been measured to produce about 46 hp and 52 lb-ft of torque. That’s plenty of power for fun on the 547-lb SCR950. The engine is smooth and has a nice exhaust note, with an easy clutch pull and predictable throttle operation.
