I honestly wanted a phone that has a powerful processor and a good camera. Originally I had a budget of around 8K hence was eying on to buy Coolpad Note 3.

Then the Redmi Note 3 got launched. I was flabbergasted by seeing people participating in flash sales week after week to get their hands on then to me, the so called "beast". It seemed funny to me how people crushing Xiaomi after failing miserably in the flash sale but once again trying their luck on the very next sale. I took it as a challenge(and also to understand why such a buzz around this device) and participated on the April 27 sale. With some research prior to the sale I was able to got the much demanded 32GB Gold variant in my very first try.

I was excited because I  not only got it in my first try but also had the opportunity to explore a Snapdragon 650 device which is much powerful than the Coolpad Note 3. Also it comes with a 16mp camera which I believe has a Samsung sensor inside it.

First Impression

The very first impression of the aesthetically built device was amazing. It looks and feels so classy in hands that it may become a reason of envy for your colleagues and friends. The super responsive fingerprint sensor act as the topping to the cake.

Processor

The processor performs best in its class. probably more than its competitors, continuously scoring above 75k in Antutu benchmarking. And trust me it is getting better with each OTA update.

Camera

The primary camera performs well in daylight, especially with HDR mode but it does struggle in low light condition. The dual tone flash is not that strong. I hope Xiaomi will fix the low light camera quality issue with its upcoming MIUI 8. The primary cam can record timelapse and slow-mo videos and can record in 4K with external camera apps like the Open Camera.

The 5mp front camera takes and beautifies selfies.

Sound

The sound output from the speaker is loud and clear. Headphone output is great with my Mi basic earphone. I strongly recommend you to use the inbuilt music app not the Play music app by Google.

The in call quality is good thanks to its active noise cancellation mic.

Battery

The thing I like most about this phone is its massive 4050mah battery. You can just play and surf endlessly. It made my long and boring train journeys entertaining. And don't worry inspite of having such a big battery it doesn't take more than 2 hours to get charged.

Memory

The 3GB RAM is enough for high end gaming and more than enough for normal day to day task and light gaming.

RN3 does have the option of expandable storage but to make it work you have to sacrifice one sim slot.

Sensors

Another thing which caught my attention is that the presence of every kind of sensors. With step counter in-built I finally started enjoy running. It can also display the acceleration. It also has the gyroscope which mean you can also experience Virtual Reality.

Future

It's now more than 4 months RN3 has launched but the madness is still there. The demand is so high that even offline vendors are failing to deliver. Actually it is expected as after RN3 phones such as Lenovo Zuke Z1, Yu Yunicorn, Meizu M3 Note and many others have been launched to rival it but nothing seems to beat RN3 yet. Now Le2 with its killer pricing is trying to steal the limelight. But will it be able to do that? Or the beast will remain the king of the jungle for few more months? Only time will tell.
