I had purchased Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 almost a month ago but then had switched to another phone recently. What was the reason behind this? Well, the cons listed after the pros will give you the answer. In order to save time, just go through the bold characters below.

PROS:

  1. All new fresh metal-like design. I wont call it a metallic built. Reason for the same is mentioned in Cons List(No.1) below.

  2. Fast Fingerprint sensor.

  3. External Storage expandibility upto 258 GB via a microSD Card.

  4. Improved camera module. Personally, I liked the depth of field created by the camera. The front camera is okay for selfies only.

  5. Incredible battery life owing to its 4000 mAh battery capacity.

  6. Vibrant and crisp 5.5 inch Full HD display.

  7. Fast Qualcomm MSM8956 Snapdragon 650 processor.

  8. 2/3 GB RAM option.

  9. Fast battery charging.

CONS:

  1. The metallic body that the Xiaomi claims to have used in this device isn't really metal. You may call it "looks like a metal body" because it only appears to have a metal body or a metallic finish. When you actually hold and touch this device, you will get to feel the cheap quality metal finish on this device. It feels cheap because it isn't really metal. It is just a metal solution brushed up against any plastic back panel. You will get to feel it when you tap the back of the phone with your nails and the kind of noise that it answers you back with, confirms it to be made of plastic. Also, the top and bottom of the non-removable back panel is made of plastic for network reception which again deliver an ugly feel.

  2. There exists a persistent problem with the fingerprint scanner which rests on the back of the device. Whenever I used to keep it in my pocket of my jeans/trousers, it tried to detect the fabric of the pocket and thus gave haptic feedbacks inside the pocket of my jeans/trousers which was quite irritating. Due to this, I had to disable the fingerprint lock on my device which is so frustrating because it is an additional feature of the phone and I could not use it. It should also be noted that the fingerprint scanner though fast, was not accurate enough to do the job most of the times.

  3. There is no dedicated microSD card slot in the device and if you need to use an external storage, you need to sacrifice one of your SIM cards that is inside the phone which is quite cumbersome.

  4. Internal Storage options available are 16 GB and 32 GB. First of all, 16 GB is not all enough for almost anyone and then 32 GB(out of which only 25 GB is available) turns out to be not satisfying everybody's storage needs as well. There should have been a 64 GB internal storage option. I am not being nit-picking here. When a company provides internal storage, it should be sufficient enough in the first place before moving on to the back up option of the external storage. My opinion!

  5. Display doesn’t have any special protection layer like Gorilla Glass, Dragontail Glass.

  6. It comes with Android Lollypop out of the box while every other phone nowadays comes with Android Marshmallow out of the box.

  7. The firmware on the device is crappy. It always tends to show me some new kind of hiccup. Sometimes, when I was watching a video or playing any game, and a phone call came which was being show as a pop-up near the notification panel, I was not able to receive the call from that pop-up window. I clicked/pressed the'Answer' and'Reject' button, but nothing happened. Also, the MIUI interface is not for all. It is boring and cumbersome.

  8. The output from the speaker is just OKAY. You cannot rely on it completely to listen to music, watch videos etc.

  9. It woudn't have hurt to throw in NFC just to complete the package. Just saying!

  10. After having used the phone for almost 2 weeks, it started giving me a very cheap feeling. I did not feel that I am using a brand new device.

You may find this device on Amazon.in, Flipkart and eBay for Rs. 9, 999 for 16 GB internal storage variant and Rs. 11, 999 for the 32 GB internal storage variant.

Due to all of the above mentioned cons, I had to change my mobile phone and later on moved on to OnePlus 3. I hope that you people find this review helpful. No hard feelings for Xiaomi. Thank you.
