Pl read if note 3 is heating up--11th May Update. Review on Xiaomi Redmi Note 3

I purchased this phone in 2nd flash sale and I have used this phone for more than 10 days now. I am continuously watching each and every reviews of the phone(out of my curiosity) therefore my review is based on the queries what other users have on the phone usage.

1.Query on Heating issue – I have charged my phone many times during this week. I observed that phone gets a little warm during charging(in those 3 hours which it takes for full charge) but doesn’t get overheated at all. If you have this issue kindly check with MI and you can ask for a replacement.

2.Query on Cellular signal reception- I am using my BSNL and Vodafone Sims in this. I did not feel any difference in the reception of the signals. It is as good as my last phone.

3.Query on Lag after updating the software – I updated the software on the next day I received the phone. I would admit that there was a lag just after updating the system(say for 3 -4 hours). It was not responding to the touches properly. But after 1-2 restarts it started performing the same way I was expecting. After that I have not felt any lag so far even in the heavy multitasking and extensive usage.

4.Query on changing the Grid to 55 - MIUI has 4 apps in a row and icon sizes are also bigger than the usual android icons. I would not recommend to try any root method or tweaking with xposed method to get the 55 configuration(as chances of voiding the warranty). Rather simply use any launcher like Nova or apex to get the desired.

5.Query on the finger print scanner- This is the most amazing feature(If you are a lazy person like me who doesn’t want to swipe the pattern all the time, then folks this is for you). This feature just works like a charm. It is very precise and responsive. It is offering convenience and security at the same time which is pretty awesome. There is no issue in this if you are facing any issue regarding this then simply can ask for the replacements.

6.Query on battery life- I am continuously using my phone and keeping a close eye on the battery performance. And let me tell you I have never got screen time less than 6 hour 20 mins. I think this SOT is pretty good. I have downloaded many apps and I am not using any battery saving profiles.

7.Query on speakers – Speakers are given on the back side of the phone and MI claims that they have given some extrusion on the side of speakers so that the speaker sound is not faded away when phone is kept on table. But in my opinion speaker placement is not proper. Sound intensity goes very low as you kept it on the table. Sound is pretty good in the headphones MI provides lots of presets for the music which are really effective and enhances your music experience.

I am pretty satisfied with the offerings of Redmi Note 3. This phone just feels premium in hand with a solid build quality. Screen quality is way better than any offering from the brands in this segment. Overall I feel this is a perfect phone in this price range. Go ahead and enjoy it!

Update on 11/05/2016->

Hey folks. Just sharing my observation regarding the heating issue. I installed the app named Ampere from google store. And following observation made during the Charging cycle.

1. 00% < Charging < 20% -?Current flow was around 800 and Temp was around 36.5

   
   




2. 20% < Charging < 40% -? Current flow was around 950 and temp was around 38.9

   
   




3. 40% < Charging < 60% -? current flow increased and temp also increased to 40

   
   




4. 60% < Charging < 78% -? Current flow was maximum and temp. was increased to 41.9

   
   




5. 78% < Charging < 80% -? Current flow decreased to 700 and temp was drastically decreased to 36

   
   

I guess the heating problem is not the Hardware issue, MIUI is designed in such a way to take maximum current in the middle of the charging cycle to charge the phone at a faster rate. Higher the current flow higher becomes the temperature.(Even metal body doesn’t cool off easily and temperature feels more here).

I found many posts people saying temp reaches to 42. I guess this issue can be taken care in the next updates by MIUI. But yes if your phone temperature goes way beyond this then definitely it could be a specific hardware problem with your phone. In that case, you can contact with MIUI people on the issue.
