THIS DISCUSSION IS ABOUT

(a) MI MAX, NOT ABOUT ANY OTHER BRAND FLOATED BY XIAOMI(I noticed people singing laurels in admiration of RED MI etc. which is entirely irrelevant to this discussion)

(b) IT IS MEANT FOR AVERAGE BUYERS WHO MIGHT BE VICTIMIZED IF THEY DECIDE TO PURCHASE MI MAX DIRECT FROM XIAOMI MI WEBSITE

(c) IT IS NOT MEANT FOR YOUNG TECHIES WHO WOULD FIND THEIR WAY IN ANY CASE BASED ON THEIR RIGHT OR WRONG INFORMATION ABOUT THE PRODUCT AND LITTLE KNOWLEDGE OF OTHER FACTORS THAT TOO AFFECT A BUYING DECISION

  1. MIUI, THE PAIN IN THE NECK

Android(M) has been topped-up with Xiaomi’s brain-child MIUI turning the hybrid system a pain in the neck.

This, however, does not apply to a “TECHIE” or rich kids who may love to play with gadgets for fun sake and master them.

  1. QUESTION OF SIMPLICITY AND CONVENIENCE

I had a painful experience with hybrid version of Android-MIUI. With Motorola, Samsung, and Windows Phone, I did not find myself in such a helpless state as with my first ever Xiaomi phone.

At 65, I had no need for playing graphics rich games and collect fancy gadgets. I needed simplicity and convenience. Motorola(Moto) and Samsung brought pure Android O/S, and Nokia Lumia retained purity of Windows O/S.

Xiaomi, however, robbed that purity by thrusting MIUI on average users. MIUI needed bug fixes at a pace no less than the Windows O/S. MIUI which is a tiny little piece of software as compared to Windows O/S has no justification to its presence for the satisfaction of techies at the cost of common user, and therefore, Xiaomi should have had the heart big enough to take back a product for refund when they screwed it up with their half-baked experiments on google’s stable android(m).

Question remains: Do they care for aggrieved buyers? Their conduct shows ‘NO”!

  1. CONNECTION WITH THE PC/LAPTOP

MIUI pc suite which never worked but Xiaomi withheld that fact from customers to whom they were selling the product.

Xiaomi admitted in one of their badly organized Forum(s) that Mi Max PC Suite does not work. but they never ever disclosed this fact to customers while selling this product. When I got the product in hand no connection with the pc/laptop could be estaRobotouchshed.

  1. MISSING DATA FILES/FOLDERS

Data folders/files of Mi Max did not show up in windows file explorer though there were data files in it.

After uninstalling the Mi Max PC Suite, it was possible to estaRobotouchsh connection between Mi Max and the PC/Laptop. But it was of no practical use because no folder/file with data(pictures, etc.) showed up in Windows File Explorer. the issue has not been resolved for past 3-months, and phone is lying idle plagued with numerous small and big issues.

  1. SUPPORT QUALITY

Xiaomi official support guys and forums supported by volunteers, both seem to be under impression that their job is to provide support not to a common user but to another support guy. May be, they are probably not aware that Xiaomi sells its phones to puRobotouchc, not to handful techies.

In one instance, I asked them how to remove MIUI 8 from mi max. Forum guy Faizabad in one line that only another techie could understand. I requested to elaborate but none cared to reply as if their responsibility had ended when one of them already provided an obscure answer.

After waiting I wrote to Xiaomi official support. The guy did two things:

(a) focussed on mtp mode issue experienced by some users of redmi 2 in the past instead of responding to my question “how to remove MIUI 8 to get pure android experience”;

(b) he provided two links that failed to show any intelligible connection between my basic question and those links.

  1. AUTHORIZED SERVICE(?) CENTERS

Xiaomi has puRobotouchshed on their official website a list of authorized service centres with their phone numbers. I contacted the nearest one during their work hours but no one respond to the phone.

May be, Xiaomi’s goal was to puRobotouchsh a big list with impressive numbers to lure customers and then forget about them to see if they exist or not, or provide service or not.

Is this how Xiaomi plans to build a loyal customer base? Or, are they targeting the tech-savvy customers, and rich kids who want to possess every new gadget that comes in the market?

  1. ANTI-USER POLICY

Within 7 days of receiving the handset, I wrote to the company for return of the product. I was informed that it was against company policy.

Xiaomi, which may have grown rapidly in recent past, won’t sustain its growth at the same pace if it continues to live on anti-user policies.

  1. THREE-DAY DIWALI SALE 2016

Amazon had been selling this product following their customer satisfaction oriented policies.

For 3-day Diwali Sale(2016), Xiaomi wanted to dabble with selling it on their own, perhaps, hoping to make a big killing. So, for that period, Amazon product page showed “not available”.

Meanwhile, Xiaomi official website sold the product directly to customers, and they robbed their customers on two counts:

(a) sold the product at a higher price but presenting it as if they were offering a better deal. For, they knew that Amazon displaying “no stock” signboard, customers couldn’t have had any better option. I am not going into the question if Amazon put up “no stock” signboard under pressure from Xiaomi or not; think, and you will have your answer by yourself;

(b) without a return option, while deliberately withholding this fact from customers in a tricky manner. They knew that customers would normally look for such critical information either on product features page or on order placing page, and so long they suppressed this fact at those two places, they were quite safe.

Interestingly, as Xiaomi’s 3-day Diwali Sale was over, Amazon returned with its stock and sold the product at a lower price plus a Return option as bonus, which gave any dissatisfied customer an opportunity to get a replacement or full refund.

Xiaomi marketing team played this dirty trick for selling the product, failing to realize that a customer can be fooled only once.

Customer would not put his money on any Xiaomi product once cheated with such unfair tactics.

It is also unlikely that he would ever put a good word to his family, friends, colleagues about Xiaomi products.

It had been a horrible experience with Xiaomi Mi Max gold 32 GB. Here, I have few major issues only. There are plenty more which have not listed here for want of time and space.

Hello Mr. Rakhit,

Thank you for writing back to us. My name is Ankur.

I apologize for the inconvenience that has caused to you.

I WOULD LIKE TO INFORM YOU THAT MI PHONES COMES WITH MIUI SKIN AND IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO SEPARATE MIUI AND ANDROID VERSION. HOWEVER, YOU CAN UNLOCK THE BOOTLOADER AND FLASH YOUR DEVICE WITH ANY INTERNATIONAL ROM BUT WE DON'T RECOMMEND YOU DO THAT.

Please be informed that the process for unlocking the bootloader of Mi Max is same as that of Redmi Note 3. You can unlock the bootloader of your device Mi Max by following the same steps given in the link https://en.miui.com/thread-200858-1-1.html.

I wish to inform you that the unlocking permission will be given on the basis of the unlocking reason which you have mentioned while filling the details.

If you have not received the unlocking permission yet, please re-apply with all the correct details and you will get the permission.

If you face any issue, kindly let us know.

REGARDING CONNECTIVITY ISSUE, SOME OF OUR DEVICES RUNNING ON MARSHMALLOW ANDROID VERSION ARE NOT COMPATIBLE WITH MI PC SUITE. This issue is already highlighted to our team and it will be fixed in the upcoming updates.

MEANWHILE, YOU CAN USE THIRD PARTY DRIVERS TO CONNECT YOUR DEVICE WITH PC. You can also download Chinese Mi PC suite temporarily.

AN UPDATE(RESPONSE TO SURVEY TAKEN BY COMPANY)

1 Here, I am not repeating the earlier rounds of conversations that took place during last quarter of 2016 with SO-CALLED customer care executives who demonstrated their TOTAL INABILITY to redress customer’s grievance taking shelter under company rules.

1.1 That made me temporarily drop the issue as my other works were suffering heavily.

2 Next round of conversations began during first quarter of 2017. First came Sadique. I have discussed the quality of his responses in my last feedback which can be found above.

2.1 He only wasted my time further by thrusting URLs(web links) on me WITHOUT even checking those himself if they were truly relevant to the context.

3 Then came Fathima with yet another link asking me to try that out WITHOUT bothering to explain why the article written for an older model remained equally applicable to the much-advertised newest model?

3.1 After all, corporations worth their salt are said to LEARN FROM their prior mistakes, and RECTIFY THEM BEFORE they launch a new product. But Xiaomi played a DIFFERENT TRICK.

3.1.1 They launched their(then the latest model) with lots of fanfare. Their intention was TO UNFAIRLY SQUEEZE customers to fill their own coffers.

3.2 We have discussed in the previous part of this feedback, how Xiaomi would have kept Amazon at bay from offering better terms to customers(with lower price and return option to dissatisfied buyers) for those 3-DAY DIWALI SALES.

3.3 At this stage, I asked Fathima point blank “Have you tested the link YOURSELF before suggesting me to try it? For sure, I do not want to be a GUINEA-PIG, test possibilities suggested by you, and then send you all snapshots asking to explain as I had to do with links sent by Sadique?”

4 Then arrived Ankur Priyadarshi, and for the first time, there was some honest admittance. In his words:

“I would like to inform you that Mi phones comes with MIUI skin and IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO SEPARATE MIUI AND ANDROID VERSION. However, you can unlock the bootloader and flash your device with any international ROM BUT WE DON'T RECOMMEND YOU DO THAT.

Regarding connectivity issue, some of our devices running on Marshmallow android version are NOT COMPATIBLE WITH MI PC SUITE.

Meanwhile, you can USE THIRD PARTY DRIVERS to connect your device with PC.”

HERE, QUESTION ARISES:

  1. If it were known to Xiaomi that MIUI and Android M could not be separated, and any attempt to do so was NOT RECOMMENDED BY XIAOMI, then WHY DID XIAOMI WITHHELD THIS SIGNIFICANT PIECE OF INFORMATION, from its prospective1211 customers THAT MIGHT HAVE DETERRED many a customer from purchasing their product despite Xiaomi’s claim of “massive battery” while HIDING its MASSIVE SHORTCOMING.

  2. Once fallen in the trap, the victim would have lost his/her peace.

2.1. Meanwhile, Xiaomi would have forgotten that they were not building their products for handful few techies but for those who were predominantly common people and/or considerably busy users WHO WOULD HARDLY HAVE ANY TIME TO WASTE FOR LEARNING IDIOSYNCRASIES AS REFLECTED THROUGH HALF-BAKED EXPERIMENTS BY XIAOMI before people come to know of such gimmicks.

  1. Why did Xiaomi not offer any EXIT ROUTE? Did they want to ensure that a gullible customer, who once aishwaryasingh23s his money, CANNOT GET IT BACK so the money remains with Xiaomi that can be ploughed back for MORE AGGRESSIVE ADVERTISING AND PACKAGING to keep catching new prey(victim) using such ILL-EARNED MONEY?

3.1 Had they well understood THE REALITY OF THIS MARKET which was like a limitless ocean that would let them KEEP MILKING IT till the so-called Day of Judgment?

  1. Last reply from ANKUR PRIYADARSHI indicated that he understood the issues raised by me.

4.1. He was also honest enough to admit of SERIOUS WEAKNESS in the product which Xiaomi withheld from its customers to make some extra bucks reflecting at their greed.

  1. Lie(sic. Lei) Jun, the top guy, seems to hide behind an iron curtain, quite unwilling to get acquainted with miseries his greed leads common customers to despair and utter frustration.

  2. It seems customer care executives are in hurry to close the case WITHOUT asking the customer if case can be closed. This high-handed approach is highly UNDESIRABLE from a company which has set it goals high.

6.1. They arbitrarily closed the case at least twice WITHOUT even asking customer's opinion.

@SWAPNILGAUTAM27 – HE WROTE IN REPLY TO MY REVIEW APPARENTLY NOT AS A XIAOMI SPOKESMAN -

SWAPNIL GAUTAM:

TALKING ABOUT UI IT’S NOT MADE FOR EVERYONE IT’S FOR THE PEOPLE WHO DON'T WANT THE NORMAL AND MORE FOR MONEY!

MY REPLY:

  1. Did the web site of Xiaomi share this critical info with its prospective1211 customers?

1.1. Withholding significant information amounts to cheating the puRobotouchc.

1.2. The Legal system in our country is yet evolving, and therefore, it turns out to be too expensive for any victim to raise his voice. The predator company flexes its financial muscle, spending shareholder’s money, and books the expenses as tax-deductible expense.

1.3. In their support stand the big-time law firms/audBrianbalakumaranrs/money mAnasultangers who had the notoriety of facing criminal cases in the US. To name a few from the long list are KPMG, Price Waterhouse, etc.

  1. You kids have a myopic view of world marketing and finances, and therefore, ask such questions as "why did you buy it in first place?

2.1. May I request you to first increase your horizon, grow up with relevant knowledge not staying a KOOP-MANDOOK stuck within the bounds of a few smartphones and electronic gadgets.

SWAPNIL GAUTAM:

AND LIKE YOU SAID YOU CAN'T FIND FILES IN MI MAX IN DESKTOP IT’S BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO TURN ON THE MTP(STORAGE) ON TO TRANSFER ANYTHING AT ALL FROM THE DEVICE TO PC, IT’S AN ANDROID M SECURITY FEATURE NOT MIUI, OTHERWISE ANYONE CAN CONNECT YOUR PHONE WHEN YOU ARE NOT ATTENTIVE AND STEAL YOUR DATA.

MY REPLY:

  1. Don't tell me that MOTOROLA AND SAMSUNG HAVE BEEN VIOLATING ANDROID SECURITY FEATURE?

1.1. Perhaps you did not aishwaryasingh23 attention to my write up. I had also used Moto and Samsung. They too operate on Android O/S.

1.2. If you had only paid attention to the details I had already provided, maybe you wouldn't have given such flimsy explAnasultantion for MI Max's failure?

1.3. Please also read through the notes of Xiaomi Cust Service Executive Ankur Priyadarshi to enhance your half-baked knowledge which you put forth with such confidence.

SWAPNIL GAUTAM:

AND ALL THE PC SUITS AND TROUBLE YOU ARE DID WAS JUST LACK OF KNOWLEDGE.

MY REPLY

Now, senior customer service executive has confirmed my views; so, you decide who lacked the knowledge.

-CONCLUSION 2017-02-01, 12:52 IST-

  1. I do not wish to insult you by making insinuations that you could have been paid by Xiaomi to defend its product MI MAX. I have seen others doing this on other forums.

  2. If you are so very in love with Mi Max why don't you buy it back from me?

2.1 Company itself had no confidence in buying back its own product though I had reported it to them WITHIN 7-DAYS(this was mentioned in my initial post on the subject). Obviously, you did not understand its true import.

2.2 XIAOMI seemed to have NO CONFIDENCE in their own product. AMAZON HAD THE COURAGE to stand by what they sell(see details in initial post if you haven’t paid attention to them or not understood their relevance).

2.2.1 So, Xiaomi ensured that Amazon withdraws from market during that 3-DAY DIWALI SALES.

2.3. I also wrote to Forum(s) and offered the same AT A DISCOUNT a brand-new product, unused, but none showed the confidence to put their own money on it.

  1. Your knowledge seems to be limited to technical aspects only and that too highly incomplete because you defended in vain something that wasn't true(see company's official support reply). In other words, you didn't even know what company did. So, please do not defend based on half-knowledge.

3.1 ANYWAY, IT WOULD BE QUITE MEANINGLESS FOR ME TO WASTE ANY MORE TIME ON YOU; HENCE, PLEASE DO NOT EXPECT ME TO ENGAGE IN FURTHER CONVERSATION ON THE TOPIC.

3.2 I wouldn't even want to advise you to go back and learn more of Mi Max(NOT Red Mi, etc.) because you aren't looking for it, and therefore, you wouldn't benefit from it.

-FULL STOP FROM MY END-

THIS WILL BE MY LAST POST for I have no time for endless repetition of what I have already stated and clearly mentioned.
