However, Cathy's egotistical nature abandons her needing preferred surroundings and more security over Heathcliff can give her.So he leaves to make his fortune and Cathy, trusting that he won't return, weds rich Edgar Linton. Yet, Heathcliff comes back, and however he despises her for wedding Edgar, neither can smother their adoration for each other.
This is a heartbreaking story of adoration, contempt, envy and the various feelings showed in affection. It indicate how detest can annihilate a man, and how not wedding for adoration can devestate.
