Set against the wild n lonely moors of England, Wuthering Heights is a stormy novel about the lives of Catherine n Heathcliff, separated only by the thin veil of death…. Heathcliff, An orphaned foundling raised by the Earnshaw family, who forms an early bond with his foster sister Catherine Earnshaw, and they both fall passionately in love with each other as they grow.
So Heathcliff is a strange mixture of savagery, ruthless greed n gentleness; and Catherine, the women he loved to the point of madness.
Irony lies in Catherine’s error in marrying Edgar Linton sets heath cliff aflame and on the path of revenge.
But the conflict is not between good n evil; it arises as a result of unearthly forces driving the characters towards their destinies.
The inmates of Wuthering Heights, the Earnshaws, are strong willed and passionate n those of The Lintons, are people of peace n goodness. Into this world comes Heathcliff as much victim of as an instrument for evil forces.
But the novel does'nt end in vengeance n death it ends on a note of peace .as much, finally, for the dead as for those who live on.
