Why we are writing in Mouthshut . Review on Writing

Why we writers are here in Mouthshut? One may say to write reviews to help consumers by providing necessary information about pros and cons of the products and services. Though it is partly true, the real purpose of the writers here is not only that and to be frank we all are here to expose our writing skills and our creativity in writing to the world and improve the same through this site. But do we have freedom to about anything and everything in this site. No, we are restricted to writing reviews only. But even in the reviews I have seen different reviews in different formats letters, interviews, short stories, and poems with high level of creativity. I recognized many of them are good writers apart from reviews they write stories, fiction, poems etc., so for those here is a site in which you can write anything and everything you want on any topic of your choice.

While I was searching for a poem on Sept 11, I came to know about this site from Google search. The site itself has domain name as “Writing.com”. It is a huge site and you have a lots and lots in it. The site has some 278000 members writing. You have a lot of categories to write novel, short story, article, documentary and any form of writing piece that you innovate which may be Action, Children's, Comedy, Drama, Fantasy, Horror, Inspirational, Mystery, Opinion, Religious, Romance, Sci-fi, Teen, Thriller, Tragedy, Writing etc., and also you can write product reviews.

The site will very complex to navigate initially but after one or two days you get used to it. The site takes time to load because each page has lots of links and banners to get loaded. Each page of the site has links to all the other pages a neatly designed one.

Now coming to membership

You have different levels of membership such as Basic, Upgraded, Premium, professional and enterprise membership for which we have to pay money. I am in a free membership account now. In this you have very limited rights to use the features of the site. You can write up to a maximum of only five items (Generally, they call any writing piece as an Item) and you get only zero Gift points. Gift points (GP’s) are the virtual currency of this site. You have to pay Gift points to others to read and rate and comment on your item. You can buy gift points by paying some money. They give 10000 gift points for $1.

Reviewing the items is the most important part of this site. Reviewing the item is similar to commenting the reviews in Mouthshut. Each member pays you GP’s for reviewing his or her item. The item that pays highest GP’s will be displayed at the top and so it will get more reviews, readings and ratings. By reviewing other items one can earn GP’s and use it for promoting his item in the site. When you read and review many articles you will get more GP’s and so you can award more GP’s for those who write reviews on your items. Based on means of awarding GP’s the items are auto-reward items, awarded items, sponsored items, merit badges etc.,

Auto – reward items are those, which will reward you the mentioned GP’s immediately after submitting a review with more than 250 characters on the item. Awarded items are for which you get GP’s based on your review. If the author of the item thinks that you have written a genuine review with properly spotting the good and bad of the article he may award as much GP’s as he wish. Merit badges are equivalent to 10000 GP’s anybody can send merit badges to anyone who has impressed them for any reason. So, Reviewing and GP’s play a vital role to market your item in this site.

If you keep writing continuously in this site based the quality of items and the involvement of the member in reading, rating and reviewing others the site may declare you as a “Preferred author” similar to “Star Writer” in MS. Many members will read the items of these authors.

Also unlike mouthshut where you can't delete your old reviews, you can delete any of your items at any time in this site.

The writers here are really very encouraging and give honest opinions and suggestions on our views. I posted one item in this site and auto –awarded 500 GP’s so far I have got 9 detailed reviews on my writing and it was very useful. I don’t write product reviews in this site as I am doing it more effectively in Mouthshut and as the site is US based you don’t have much Indian products to review.

The site also provides you a email account and all the mails related to the site will we dropped in this mailbox. You will get alerts when your item is reviewed and all communication between the members takes place in this mailbox. Even you can see who are online at a particular time and provides you instant messaging facility.

The writers here have high vocabulary in English and I use an online dictionary while reading their items to understand well. And even many writers here take time to review and review itself is well written in their own unique style. There are a lot more to tell about this site. But I myself have to explore this site more but I just wanted a bunch of writers from Mouthshut who are in thirst of creativity to start writing poetry, stories and anything they want in this site and become more popular and hope many of them will join this site.
