I have been on Mouthshut since few years now. My first interaction with it was through google when I was searching reviews on certain product. Since then I have got attached to this site for reading reviews before I decide to buy any product or visit any place.
After few days, I also realised that I should also be part of it and share my own experiences so I created my login profile and wrote a few reviews. There were good comments, suggestions and ratings as well - however the real motivation came in terms of the monetary benefits MS started offering recently via the contest -"Write-Share-Win".
Concept: This is a very unique concept I have seen so far on the internet. Till now, I have seen many sites which uses your experience, your photos, your reviews on their site and gets the increased user hits on their site and make money for themselves. People dont realise this - they are happy with the non-monetary recognition that these websites provide them like points, photos, certificates etc.While MS really pays you in cash for every word that you pen.
What is the contest? What you need to do is write a genuine review of any product/service that you have used, a movie you watched or a book that you have read or a place that you have recently visited and so on. And you can choose from the endless list of products available on the site. In case you don't find the product that you want to write about - there is a "Mouthpad" where you can request MS to add your product - which will go through a review and will be either approved or rejected.
Once you are done with the review, you need to share it either on Facebook or Tweeter. A negative review earns you 30 while a positive one earns 20 MS points. Sharing them on FB/Tweeter will earn you additional 20 MS points. The reviews are also subject to approval by MS team.
Besides, if you refer a friend you can earn 50 MSP and for each comment you get 2 MSP and each Rating earns you 1 MSP.
Remember there is a limit of 30 MSP you can earn via Comments/Ratings each day. Some of your comments/ratings may also get disapproved by MSP(at their discretion).
Downside: One of the downsides this contest has created is - the quality of the reviews people write has gone down drastically. Sometimes I feel its waste of time clicking on a link to read the review only to realize its a generic write-up, written solely for the purpose of earning some MS points. In the reviews I expect people to talk more about their personal experiences while using the product so that it can genuinely help others in making some decisions.
Actual Payments and other T&C: There is also a concern many people have logged is regarding actual payments. I believe there are certain aspects writers here need to understand. MS has made it clear that you have to have a genuine profile created along with your picture, your account details needs to be updated, your KYC document needs to be uploaded. Besides, you should reach a minimum of 500 MSP to request for your first actual money transfer.
Secondly, they also mention that money credit will happen either on the 1st or 15th of every month and there could be delay of 5-10 days in doing so.
I have already received my first payment credited to my bank account, though after some wait-time which I am fine with. Its a huge motivation that someone is really giving you credit for your writing skills, time and efforts(which the other websites want for free)
