Presently everybody is aware in someway or the other about cloning.I think even if one do not know what exactly this is all about, atleast everyone did hear the word
'cloning'sometime or the other.Being a science graduate I would like to let people know something(if not everything) about it.
The terms that generally come with the word CLONING are:
1.plasmids
2.restriction enzymes
3.host and expression strains
4.genes, DNA and so on.
As far as the definition goes, it can be defined as'The process of molecular cloning involves isolating a DNA sequence of interest and obtaining multiple copies of it in an organism, usually a bacterium, that is capable of growth over extended periods. Large quantities of the DNA molecule can be then isolated in pure form for detailed molecular analysis. The ability to generate virtually endless copies(clones) of a particular sequence is the basis of recombinant DNA technology and its application to human and medical genetics. The name'recombinant DNA' refers to novel combinations of DNA created between human(or other) DNA sequences of interest and bacterial(or other) DNA molecules capable of indefinite duplication in the laboratory'.
Cloning amd genetic engineering is really a fast growing field and scientists all over the world are working on it to find modified and recombinant organisms.I really love the subject because it shows the power of the human brain.Thanks to the human brain.Its great!
