True melody never dies, even if it comes forth in an age of repetitive and beats-oriented music. I was glad to confirm the truth of this belief after I heard the sound track of Mahesh Bhatt's 'Woh Lamhe'. The Bhatt Camp has always been known for great music. Their last offering Gangster was a bright feather in the cap. Woh lamhe is an ideal follow up for the same.
1.Kya Mujhe Pyar Hai: KK- This is perhaps the best track of the album. KK proves his mettle once again, in quick succession after the beautiful 'Tu Hi Meri Shab Hai.' He sounds fresh, completely in love and is a pleasure to listen to. The chorus "o o o" part is haunting. A special word abt the lyrics- its sheer poetry weaved with beautiful music. Yes, there is a catch. This track is a supposed lift off an Indonesian pop number. But nevertheless, you fall in love with this instantly. The same goes for the remix version. Its just made for the dance floor.
2.So Jaao Main: Kunal and Shreya Ghosal- This song appears twice in the album in a male and female version. Its a track that radiates love- the desire to be lost in a dream world and forget everything but love. Both the versions are fine gems, but I preferred Kunal's version. Shreya sounds just a little shrill at places. This has simple, subtle lyrics and charming music. The song's composed by guest composer Roop Kumar Rathod. It sure wont disappoint listeners.
3.Chal Chale:James- Time to listen to Bheegi Bheegi(Gangster)star, James. Unlike his high voltage earlier track, Chal chale is a soft number that talks about a lover desirous of taking his beloved to some place quiet and serene. I somehow liked this track, at first hearing. It has a certain freshness..James does do a bit of his high energy intonation. But the song would have been a better addition to this classy album without the frills.
4.Tu Jo Nahin:Glenn John- This falls into the ghazal genre but is not monotonous in any way. The new singer on the block is quite flawless in his rendition. The track sounds immensely situational in nature. The theme of a 'no love, no colour in the world' is an old one but is exploited well yet again. I did feel some shakiness in the voice at places though. Still, its pleasant enough to give a second hearing to. Yeah, it appears twice.
5.Bin tere: Jawad Ahmad- An old song reused in the album. I hadn't heard it earlier, so it was a novel track for me. Its likeable in its own way. The lyrics are superb. Such beauty and simlicity rarely comes forth in today's age of Himesh style music. The humming in this song reminds me of Shaan's Le Chale. Both the songs have a similarity in being melodious as well as hummable.
Woh Lamhe is quite a hyped movie as its based on the relationship between Mahesh Bhatt and the late Parveen babi. As expected from the Bhatts, the sound track is enthralling. I hope proper credits are given in the course of time to prevent any plagiarism issues. Pritam is definitely a talented music composer. If not compose originals, he can atleast rearrange tracks well. ;)
For the lovers of good music, Woh lamhe sure has a lot to offer.
