Widen has reached a stage wherein everything about it will be spoken about in the past tense.
It is similar to an Indian heritage structure-obsolete and living on borrowed time.
In a way the great legacy of the master has fallen into the hands of pretenders who are doing nothing to give a semblance of hope. Rather than go about sustaining the languid prose of the bygone era, today's dream merchants who run the magazine are more like media representatives for whom language and syntax are like a bouncer that has to be ducked.
That's the pity. One hopes that the pretenders to the throne will take cue from the ICC and move its base. Of course, it should not relocate to non-cricketing places like Dubai.
One fondly hopes the element of grace that marked the great institution called Wisden will show some sparks of a comeback.
In cricketing parlance, a prolific player like Sachin Tendulkar may take the world by storm by his exploits but when it comes to batting and maestros, the zenith will forever belong to Don Bradman. It is the same when it comes commentators.
Irrespective of who runs the show and how many fascinating publications come out from the Wisden stables, none can match the Original Master.
