When the world went from Windows 2000 to Windows XP it was a huge step forward in the areas of operating system design, stability and function. After all these years Windows XP is still used and regarded by many as the most rock-solid operating system. Sure there were a few problems at the start but Microsoft consistently provided updates and service packs until almost all bugs were gone and new features became available. The only problem with XP nowadays is that a number of new applications don't run on it which is to say that in a sense it has become outdated. Yet it is still the best choice for those people who would like to perform only simple tasks on the computer such as office work, browsing and perhaps some movie watching. This is so because in addition to it's solid reliability and performance it is also one of the cheapest operating systems there is and in my opinion provides the best value for a customer's money. Of course, the problem with brand new operating systems is the deluge of driver compatibility issues and bugs that they are plagued with. Not to mention the super high hardware requirements. In light of all these facts I would say that Windows XP is the best choice for those users who want reliability more than the latest and sometimes unstable functionality.
