The CD-Writer I have sometimes work and sometimes do not work. So, it was not possible for me to carry my presentations, word documents, Photoshop/HTML file's to school every time in a compact disc. Afterwards opted for an UMAX pen drive (128 MB) which is still working fine but in that case also, all the files couldn’t fit in. Then thought of downloading software that could archive my files to the max. Possible extent. Read many articles on the most popular ones :WinZip & WinRar. After using both decided to stick with WinRar only as compression is far far better and has some extra features.
About the Software/Features :
WinRar is a super powerful archive manager bases on XOS which reduces the size of email attachments, PP/HTML/WORD files or you could say any file & after size reduction, it is presented before you in the .RAR/.ZIP file format. WinRar uses different algorithms for different types of files unlike .ZIP format . It also decomposes

CAB
ARJ
TAR
GZ and TAR.GZ

UUE
JAR (Java Archive)
ISO (ISO9660 - CD image)
Z (UNIX compress)
files download from the internet/Any Media.
Also creates new archives in .RAR/.ZIP format. Now days mostly files (CAT forms, CBSE Results etc) which are downloadable from the internet are in .RAR format.
It can BACKUP your files or HARDDISK, thereafter can archive them. Less no. of cd will be used to burn your hard disk comparatively as it will become small in size after reduction in size.
- Add a password to your archive to prevent intrusion or vital DATA leak. You can also lock it by entering your personal info. Like- You’re Maiden Name???. So, when you open it, it would ask for your Maiden Name....
Now extract the files in an archive with ease. Just select the folder and press the tab 'Extract'. Test them (files), if any sort of damage found, can be repaired.
Estimate the compression ratio & Packed Size.
Convert archives to SFX format.
Many beautiful skins/themes are there to make it look stylish/attractive.
You can select from options before compression- ’’Store’’, ’’Fastest’’, ’’Fast’’, ’’Normal’’, ’’Good’’ and ’’Best’’. The 'best' compression option takes the highest time to complete.
Interface :
WinRar pleases you from every corner. The interface is sophisticated, Easy to use, simple and a cool one. Navigation is a bit difficult and takes time to adjust.
Useful For Whom?
This software is very useful & is basically made for people who carry lots and lots of Precious DATA like important documents/presentations/.exe files which occupy a great deal of space everyday to their office/school or anywhere.
Some Disadvantages :
Takes time to archive or extract files whereas WinZip does it in seconds.
Drag & Drop facility is not that great, it hangs at times.
While compression is in process, it uses a large amount of windows memory which
overall slows down the computer for that very moment.

Like WinRar compresses files, I also want to compress all MS members and keep them in my pocket, so that they will be with me everytime.Can anyone please grant me my wish??
