Story:

“Who moved my cheese?” is a book that deals with how all of us can accept the changes that are taking place in our lives and remain satisfied with it. The author has used the metaphor of “Cheese” to link it with our goals at different stages of our life.

The story is about four characters – two mice Sniff and Scurry and two little people Hem and Haw. They ran through a maze looking for cheese. Both the parties searched for their own kind of cheese in the maze here there were dark corners and blind alleys. And finally they each found it in Cheese Station C. as the cheese started getting smaller; Sniff and Scurry were well prepared for it and hence started looking for new cheese. But on the other hand Haw and Hem were totally shaken to see the cheese missing. Soon depression and frustration came over them and they continued to sulk. Every now and then Haw decided to move away and search for cheese and finally one day he gathered courage to move away and find new cheese. But Hem continued to stay at Cheese Station C waiting for the cheese to arrive. Through his journey to find a new cheese, Haw encountered number of fears but his optimism and the right attitude helped him to keep on moving towards his goal. And finally his struggle paid off and he found his new cheese as well as his friends Sniff and Scurry. Did Hem find a way out of his misery is left to the reader to interpret.

What the story teaches me is- changes are inevitable, so you either you change or continue to hold on to the illusion that the change did not take place. Not only that, along with change comes the challenge to adapt to it. If we succumb to the fear, worse is yet to happen. The story teaches me that either change when a small change takes place or you’ll have to face the big change that awaits you which will be even more difficult to face.
