What Dreams May Come (1998)

One of the best movie concepts and underlying themes I have ever ever seen!

Its drama, a bit of adventure and a whole lot of absolutely terrific spiritual journey that ties into some advanced after life concepts that some of the older religions talk about, all packaged into a fantastic movie for those who have the patience, interest and capability to understand its depth.

Brilliant elements:

Storyline Theme - Richard Matheson Rocks! This is not about God, nor is it about the devil. Its about your own intentions taking you (or God giving it to you depending upon how you see it) as you asked for it. The beauty and depth of life & death comes out (Optimism and Trying to look for happiness inspite of all difficulties). The ugliness and depth of life & death comes out (Suicide). The power of love, twin souls gets portrayed very nicely. The conquest of beauty over ugliness finally presents itself beautifully.

Yes, there could be alternative interpretations by religions on souls journey when a person dies in an accident, suicide, but I believe lets leave those detailed specifics aside and see the concept being portrayed here.

Acting - Robin Williams stars (no surprises there). Excellent character portrayal by him, his wife (Annabella), Cuba Gooding Junior of course.

On a real note - Its so very very sad that Robin has played such a beautiful movie in real life but ended his own life in a way so against what he showed in this movie. (Why Robin, oh.. why?)

Direction, screenplay, makeup, cinematography, photography - Brilliant to see the colours, the contrasts, the character depictions. The way heaviness of life is shown differently in the two main characters and how it alters their face, behavior, way of looking at life.

Music score plays to the background well.Who should watch:If you are sensitive to the concept of life, death. If you are keen on understanding more of how some of the "spiritual scientists" have expressed this.

Who may not like it: If you want death/meaningless gore/crude fantasy, you wont get it in this movie. If you like heavy adventure, mundane mystery, even a bit of comedy, you dont have it in this movie. Yes for quite a bit of spiritual adventure and mystery though.

Thank you team for one of the best movies ever. So what if there are a few flaws here and there, its far ahead from the normal rubbish that keeps coming on and on.
