I’ve always liked that honey and chilli concoction that’s served as an accompaniment in Thai restaurants, and had been hunting for something similar to dip snacks into at home too. The hunt ends with Weikfield Sweet Chilli Sauce. India’s first Sweet Chilli Sauce (tan tan tara…roll the red carpets, flood with applause)

Though I suffer from an acute fondness for spicy stuff that makes me run up and down while eating them, Weikfield Sweet Chilli Sauce is not one of those sauces or chutneys that is troublesome during ingestion and during egestion. You know, those kinds of sauces that have you yelling for water during intake and later launch you to the moon when you are expelling them out. Our baby is pleasant and mild tasting with the right balance of spice and sweet and you simply have to dip your snacks in her.

It is not one of those cloyingly sweet tomato sauces, neither does it boast of some very exotic herbs in its recipe. It is a combination of fiery red chillies, loads of garlic sugar and vinegar and has a good mix of spiciness n sweetness. It’s a beautiful looking bright transparent red chilli sauce, with loads of chilli flakes floating in its reasonably thick consistency. Though the informed palate will immediately recognize that this is almost a run of the mill sauce, someone whose exposure to sauces began and ended with tomato ketchup will find it a tongue tickling novelty.

Pour it liberally on your plate of Chinese, Thai, Continental or any Indian snacks. Fantastic with fried rice, excellent with pakodas n samosas, a must with frankies, throw some of it on full boiled eggs or scrambled eggs, mix it well in noodles, dive your French fries in it, smother your potato chips with it, plunge your chicken lollipop into it. I also like to toss a slight bit some in a bowl of farsan, makes nice thing with drinks.

One can even get intimate after eating Weikfield Sweet Chilli Sauce, because unlike other garlic sauces this one does not have the propensity to make your mouth smell like a gutter.

First found it in Big Bazaar, Mulund, was there for a work related visit actually (kaam hi meri pooja hai, pooja hi mera kaam hai) when I noticed this sauce and picked it up just for the heck of it. Ever since I’ve been almost addicted to it. However, no neighbourhood kiraana stores stock it. Have also found it in D-Mart and Haiko (Powai). Since its not a very popular brand and you may have to hunt around a bit among all those Kissans, Heinzs, Maggis staring at your face.

Packaging, Price, Storage etc

Personally, I don’t care much about the bottle and neither should you. I’m only mentioning it so that you locate it easily among the hordes of sauces jostling for space on store shelves.

Red top, yellow n red label, 6” short fat clear glass bottle. Sorry, I guess that’s not of much help as this description fits mostly all sauce bottles, so please continue hunting. It is 36 INR for a 250 gm bottle, and to be refrigerated after opening.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

However use it in the right amount (and since I don’t know how to tell how much amount is right amount in a review, please go by trial and error, or come home) coz too much of it gets too sweet.

This is the current hottest thing at home as bottles after bottles have disappeared within the last two months. Throw a bottle in your shopping cart in the next visit to the store.
