Guess I don't watch NDTV much really...just happened to be stuck in a town under ''Bandh'' on Republic Day that I happened to catch this particular discussion/debate on Republic Day Parade...wether it is still relevant in todays times.
On the panel along with the anchor Ms Dutt were a columnist.....I forget his name..who happened to find the parade irrelevant.... a celebrated Air Force Veteran Patniji and Javed Aktharji who on the contrary felt it instilled a sense of pride and nationalistic feeling instead.
Well, I don't think ill delve into the depth of what was discussed...but the very fact that such an issue....instead of being shown in a different light....such as...''The Historic Day India Became a Republic.....what does it mean to us...To put it simply..well SOMETHING TO DO WITH NATIONAL PRIDE I SUPPOSE!
However hard Ms Dutt tried to project the Parade as irrelevant...her view could hold no water.
instead here we were filling up what I think was sadly some vacant media space on a television channel....some contorted thought of a producer who in all probability has discarded all things Indian.
It angered me ...to find Our Republic Day open to such a stupid discussion. It angered Javedji too...and he did express it in not too many words though.
A live sms poll was on too...30% found the Parade irrelevant...bordering 70% found it relevant.
I can guess this 70% were angry too.
I am not proud of our Netas...nor our celebrities.
For me...the countless people of various communities struggling to continue living, our soldiers...who guard our borders...the thousands who have laid down their lives to give us this day matter.
This parade is for us ....you and I....this parade is us.
I'd love to turn the tables and ask...is NDTV really relevant?.... Is Ms Dutt relevant?
