Story:

We the Living, Ayn-Rand

Any written works must evoke feelings, our brains make images from sound heard or words read, those images in turn trigger chemicals which induce emotions and feelings in the body. That is why people say love is chemical reactions, in order to generate strong emotions from written words a writer has to undergo all those emotions himself/herself first. Verbalizing those feelings is difficult art any write-up I read be it a paragraph or a novel of 464 pages, I am tuning my body, making it ready, creating in my body anticipation for the release of chemicals and emotions.

Communism, Collectivism in fact is not as described in this book, it was a fantastic ideology which made millions live by it, believe it, follow it and it changed a small kingdom into one of the front runners of science and technology, a system which landed first on moon. It captured half of this world, as there is nothing permanent in our living world so also it was not everlasting. Please be sure other isms will not last.

At least this Author does not profess muddle speak, she is clear in her plot, loud in her characters, whether be it Comrade Pavel Syerov, Comrade Sonya, Sasha Chernov, Uncle Vasili Ivanovitch, Irina, Vava, Kira Argounova, Andrei Taganov, Victor Dunaev, Marisha, Leo Kovalensky, Stepan Timoshenko, Karp Morozov, Antonina Pavlovna, Acia, Galina Petrovna, Maria Petrovna, Alexander Dimitrievitch, Lydia the devout Christian and the piano player.

All characters are vivid, clear and real like, see these ridiculous names acquire an identity of Soviet Union. I am sure no person living or dead in Russia ever had such names but the power of writing makes them real to us.

The repetition of words Citizen, Comrade, Revolution, Proletariat and the misery of conditions of life in Russia after revolution are almost believable, they emboss an image on mind as happening or happened. Everybody is talking about rations and cooperative stores and every character is suffering from food shortage reinforces the emotion which the author intends to create in the novel reader's mind.

What have I acquired from this novel, well I don’t acquire except pleasure from my readings, the snippets of dialogues in the funeral procession of Andrei Taganov are real fantastic and creative. It is better than watching scenes in a motion picture or a video program. This image sure beats the dull and boring things being shown to Indian viewers from the genius and super creative Balaji Telefilms.

Kira will not be a hot and memorable character like Roark, she is very forward and subdued, emotional and cold, kind and obedient and a rebel, it seems the author herself was hesitant and raw those days. Anyway this author makes her central characters unbending and they do not surrender their inner heart chambers to any reason, pressure or emotions, this singular trait of the protagonist among the fallen human beings all around is a hallmark of this writer. She gives a sense of being whole and full thru her portrayal of heroes and heroines. She not only gives these character admirable qualities but gives despicable attributes to many characters around to give us the readers contrast and depth, that is her genius.

We all readers have our weakness, see we are weak, we let our feelings get mixed up with the figment of imagination of a master writer. We always mix up the story of a novel with our emotions and feelings. That is very silly, our feelings are real and has physical presence, but whereas the characters are fiction and imagined by Author.

I should not say these candid and frank things, but to keep myself whole and undivided, I have to give an honest appraisal of this novel. A review, if you ask me has 2 points (1) VIEW (2) RE. This is my compulsion to write my view of things, as a consumer I am given that liberty.

With this review I have not compromised the novel for a would be reader and also participated in the curiosity of a person who has already read this book.

Yo folks do not divide yourself; you will save the world from divisions!!!!!
