Relax and enjoy. Review on Wayanad

To relax totally and enjoy thoroughly, one has to go to Wayanad in Kerala. The place is picturesque. In fact, one can say that it is comparable to even the lake district of UK. The rivers are so blue, the coconut trees so green and the mud so red, that one can paint a lovely picture anywhere in Wayanad.

Wayanad has a salubrious climate. It is a hilly place and the ghats look cool and inviting, especially if you are a trekking person. Rivers crisscross with quaint waterfalls here and there. Boating is there on some lakes, and the district is dotted with picturesque cosy farm houses, resorts and lodges.

We went to a place called Greenex in the heart of Wayanad. Situated some 2, 500 feet above sea level, this is a cute outof this world kind of place which has tree houses, camps, cottages and even dormitories. The aproach road is through extensive and neat tea gardens where women pluck the leaves and carry them on their heads in sacks. The fifteen to twenty minutes drive through the tea gardens may be a bit bumpy as the roads are not tarred and the heavy monsoon means that they have to be freshly laid. But they are cute and very picturesque.

One enters the Greenex  Farms and climbs to the restaurant . This is an open space with neat tables and chairs, covered by a roof which has to be changed often as the winds tend to tear them away. The breeze is lovely and beautifully cool. Food is served here in the mornings and afternoons. For the evening tea the venue is the cool poolside where one can relax and enjoy hot pakoras and fresh tea or coffee. The dinner is laid out among bright colourful lights and a cheery bonfire(if it is cool). Food is out of this world. Everything is fresh from the vegetable patches and fruits from the orchard. One is welcomed with  a lime juice drink which is made from a freshly squeezed lemon. For breakfast fruit juice, it is pineapple, orange , grape or some fresh and thick juice.

The cottages are very comfortable. Some of them do not have electricity-they are maintained that way to give the place a natural atmosphere. Lanterns are hung at strategic places to light the way at night and they burn thorughout th night. Emergency lamps are placed in every room and charged every day in case the visitor wants them.

For the honeymoon couple who wants to spend time in isolation, there are hammocks hung, or cosy corners in the 13   acre farm.

Besides there are various tourist points like the Chembra peak from where one can see the entire district of Wayanad, or the Kanthampara waterfalls which are very picturesque and beautiful. There is a lake nearby where boating is allowed and an Earth dam which is a very beautiful area.

What is Kerala without a medicinal oil massage? Greenex people arrange for a massage and have plans of having a masseur on the premises itself soon.
