Of late I dont really remember one single flick that actually caught my attention. But wait. One did though. The controversial Water has made magic happen on the seventy mm screen. A must watch for all who like viewing true Indian cinema. Why???? Take a look.
Shot in the 1920s or 30s times, when India was still a slave to the British Goras, water primarily deals with the concept of widows and their lives.The atrocities and aftermath socialy and mentally they face to be more precise. The plot of the story is a house which supposedly takes care of widows, where Chuia, a cute little but unfortunate child widow is brought. Chuia's torture stars the moment her aged husband expires with her lustrous thick long hair being shaved to making her beg near the Hindu templs and finally a night when she is tricked in the most forcible manner to being abused with one of the men in the higher starta of the city. Not revealing much about the story, I would sum it up as the story essentially belonging to this little girl Chuia who with her excellent acting skills comes a clean winner.
Also power pact performances by Seema Biswas, Lisa Ray and John Abraham who plays the character of Narayan. I am completely in awe of John who in essayed a never before played kind of role so effotlessly and minus any flaw.
Water the film is a in short one more feather in the cap of director Deepa Mehta who has every time delivered beautiful momentos like 1947 Earth and Fire. Water the film is a must watch for every cinema goer who believes in the idea of a good meaningful storyline, a good cause, good direction and good acting. My thums up to this one. SO DONT MISS IT. PLEASE!!!
