Yes! Of course.... Review on War on Iraq: Case For 'Yes'

For how much longer will Hollywood have to make war movies based on World War I and World War II? How much more time will we keep seeing the Japs, Russians and Vietnamese as the villains of the piece? When will they replace the jungles of some remote South East Asian islands or the snow covered terrains of Siberia with a different backdrop? Picture this… searing heat, scorching desert, enemies who have no regard to the (UN) important Geneva Convention… A war that promises “Shock and Awe” … thousands of people homeless, several hundreds mutilated and few lucky ones killed, and amidst all this a young US marine in love with “Burkha clad” Iraqi woman… He has only seen her once before… when after the death of all the men and children in her home it was her turn to fetch the family (or what remained of it) a pail of water and the dry desert storm lifted her veil just momentarily enough for him to catch a glimpse… now she has vanished… into the confusion, looting and arson that has resulted after the “coalition” has freed her motherland from the evil regime… it’s a race against time… will he find her? Will the lovers unite?? Will there be happy ending???

If well made, I foresee a minimum of 9 nominations for the next years Oscar and surely a great deal of return on the money invested.If not for anything else at least for Hollywood’s sake this war is justified.

We do not need no oil…

Don’t tell me that this war is for oil. America does not need oil. France, Germany and Russia need it. (This is something I learnt from a few reviews and comments on Mouthshut). America is not fuelled by petrol! America runs on pride, pride derived from its glorious history of freedom and liberation… it is lesser mortals in other countries, who drive on petrol. America runs on information – the country as a whole, on information derived from news channels like CNN (Oh yes! AL Jazeera too) and the policy makers on information generated through intelligence. So what if the information is wrong? Intelligence suggested that Iraq had WMD (should I bother expanding it?). The war is almost over but no evidence of WMD yet…

You say: “That’s precisely the reason this war was wrong and it should be condemned and to think that a country that could not resist an attack in its own backyard, with all its territorial advantage was touted as a threat to world peace… it is highly ridiculous”

I say: “Think again, in past twelve years the entire world has been going through sleepless nights wondering if Iraq had WMD or not, whether Iraq is a security threat or not. So much expenditure on intelligence, so much tension, so many inconsequential UN weapons inspection exercises… Thanks to the war we all now know for sure that Iraq and its “evil” leader Saddam might have been honest when they said that they did not possess any weapon of mass destruction and that they were no real threat to World peace as such. To bring out the truth is often a painful process, that’s precisely what the War has done. Besides that this War also stands as a warning to countries who the US calls the axis of evil.

You say: “They claimed they will catch Saddam Hussein and eliminate him? What happened?”

I say: “Hang on mate, don’t get impatient. They will catch him, just like how they caught Osama… err I mean they will catch him unless something more pressing (read Syria, Iran, North Korea etc…) comes up in the months ahead…”

Those who sow will have to reap…

In my growing up years, we had a rule that was imposed by my mom in our home. Anyone who creates a mess will have to clear it up themselves. I grew up (with little help from “Thums up”, I should add) believing more and more in that rule. By that yardstick, since the “menace” called Saddam is to some extent the handiwork of US Policy makers of the past, it is good that they decided to put an end to him. To accept ones mistake and to make amends for it, is in my opinion a very humble gesture. The US policy makers have paid for the mistake they committed in the past by sending their young men and women to the dessert, to live and die in horrifying conditions of a desert in the summer. If this is not sacrifice, then someone has changed the meaning of the word since I last looked it up in the dictionary.

Rediscovering democracy – redefining democracy…

It was Abraham Lincoln who said “democracy is of the people, for the people, by the people”, and if US neglects it then who will value it. In today’s world and times one has to agree that in every field of life it’s the majority opinion that counts… well I mean in almost every field of life; the UN for example is an exception. On select issues in the UN it’s the minority opinion that seems to matter. While on the UN I should admit that I am floored by the foresight of the people who named it. The UN is simply UNwarranted, UNimportant, UNdecided, and UNdiplomatic….

Coming back to democracy, with changing times the definitions too needs change so as on date the definition for democracy has been redrafted to include the following…

Democracy is of the people [an interim committee will be set up with representatives of various ethnic groups (read by US and its coalition allies (Hahaha, pardon me I could not stop laughing at this), not Iraqis not even UN, will appoint a set of people to rule Iraq)]

Democracy is for the people (people means citizens of US and its friendly allies, all others are not considered people at least their opinion does not seem to count, oops I almost forgot… People means the people of Iraq too, or at least what is left of them after the war is over)

Democracy is by the people (who are armed with high precision cruise missiles, Bunker-Busters, Daisy cutters, Battle tanks, Tomahawks, armored combat vehicles so on and so forth)

US promised democracy, stability and progress in several countries it invaded oops liberated (the most recent example being Afghanistan). It could not deliver. Remember the story of a king who learnt a lesson from the spider… If you do not succeed, keep trying. We should give US another chance. We owe it to them for making our world free from terror.

Thank God! I did not take up a career as a lawyer, my arguments sound ridiculous to me. But then a ridiculous statement like “War on Iraq: Case for 'Yes'” would elicit only ridiculous justifications. But however ridiculous my arguments are I would like to sign off in style… You can go shouting from the roof top about how unjustified this attack is. You can hold protests all over the World, the Security Council can voice its disagreement, the UN its displeasure, the simple naked fact is that the war is on and is almost over by now, So If you cannot beat em, join em!!! I rest my case.
