Former President Gerald R. Ford said in an embargoed interview in July 2004 that the Iraq war was not justified.( Courtesy: Washington Post).

1991 - 2003

The period from the end of the first Gulf War in 1991 to the beginning of the second Gulf war in 2003 saw continuous military pressure on Iraq by the United States and the United Kingdom. The US-UK launched major air strikes against Iraq on several occasions, as well as deploying threatening forces in Iraq's proximity and operating military air patrols to enforce "no-fly zones." In early 2002, the Bush administration announced that it considered Iraq to be part of an "axis of evil" and threats of a US-led war for "regime change" got steadily louder throughout the spring and summer. By September, it had become clear that Washington was planning a full-scale invasion, as it won authorization for military action from the US Congress. This section looks at the US road to war, including US efforts to win support from the United Nations and to obtain favorable resolutions in the UN Security Council.

2006 - 2007.:

In simple terms, an overview of the reasons as quoted by Bush jr. about the war on Iraq(as per the paparazzi):

  1. There is terrorism activities in Iraq. They(Mr. Saddam and his citizen) have connections with Al-Qaeda. Is it so? There might be some evidences to prove this fact. But, Hussein was a secular Muslim ruler, and bin Laden is a radical Muslim fundamentalist—their ideological views are hardly compatible. Hussein would not have given the WMD(Weapon of mass destruction explained later) to the Al-qaeda.

  2. Iraq has weapons that can destroy the whole world in a matter on 45 minutes.Technically, WMD - Weapons of mass destruction, Arsenal. Oh! let me guess, Mr. Bush, "your sources are not our concern, but, the credibility of your sources are ofcourse a concern" . So you decided to bomb on Baghdad and let some poor innocent men lose their lives? You helped some ingénues forget to breathe? Left some kids homeless? All by bombing in the night? Can the picture fade away from my eyes? Is there any way I could have helped them? Any human could have helped them? How many casualties - insanely huge in numbers. The financial costs - incredible. Somewhere in the corner of my mind, I feel, may be you wanted to teach them a lesson. But, whom did you teach a lesson? Did you get any results about the weapons to destroy the world in 45 mins? IS THIS JUSTIFIED? CAN YOU SUBSTANTIATE YOUR ACT? You are trying to build a house on a quagmire? There are some US citizens who think IRAQis(specific IRAQis) as a threat, no wonder, they also support you Mr.Bush!

  3. They have used chemical weapons on the KURD community during some gory nerve-racking incident. So, you decided to wage a war against them? Reason enough for such an act? You appreciate their IQ so much? Is it really tough to come with such a weapon again? USA - Aint you some kinda god?

  4. Changing the regime in IRAQ by bringing democracy in their country, hoping for some peace in their country. To a certain extent, you have succeeded Mr.Bush, can call it strategy. But, are you planning to conquer IRAQ now? Do you remember the loss incurred while trying for the same, in North Korea? Who will be the guinea pigs at the end? Your U.S. citizens, they will just end up paying higher tax rates. Is that fine? But, the question is, if the IRAQis themselves were OK with the anarchy in their govt. why would you bother? Are you trying to save the world? Or were you too impulsive? Can you retreat now, with ease? Does this predicament have easy and quick solutions? Don't you think letting your military assault on IRAQ was bit of a mistake?Other mistakes include disbanding the Iraqi army and placing responsibility for reconstruction with the Department of Defense instead of the Department of State.

  5. President Bush asserts that U.S. military action against Iraq was justified because Saddam Hussein was in material breach of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1441. ie, Gulf war started in 1991-> By Saddam-> Later, U.S. came in picture-> there was some treaty signed by the U.N.-> Saddam broke 17 points of the cease fire-> U.S. expected U.N.O. to take action->But, they only spoke. U.S. realized that SADDAM respects ACTION and not WORDS->They saw him as a threat-> waged a war. Mmm. how barbaric can Mr. Bush get? Equivalent to Mr.Hussein. Who was a threat? Sorry, who is a threat? A bigger threat? It is believed that, after the incident of Saddam's statue being broken into pieces in the year 2003, he had stopped taking decision for Iraq or the world. Rest is left to you to conclude.

  6. THAT TURNED WAR INTO A CRUSADE Oil in Iraq.Yes, amongst today's life where, resources are depleting. But, waging a war for such a reason? Can it be more crappier than this as a reason?

*How can he justify taking his country into a war nobody wants? He can't. He can only resort to rhetoric, cliché and propaganda. Now, Saddam is no more. Baathams are! Is this the end of the saga or the beginning?

*
                                                                                 PERSONAL GRUDGE.
