Week after week, big budget films are releasing, nowadays in Bollywood. This week,we have ”Waqt- A Race Against Time”.This film has been in the news since last 1 and a half years. It was launched way back in December 2003 and it has finally released.Vipul Amrutlal Shah, the man who earlier made ”Aankhen” (2002),is back with this film, which is totally different from his previous film, which was a thriller but from the viewer`s point of view this film is not at all,a different one,as we have seen such films umpteen times.

Eros Entertainment and Entertainment One.`s ”Waqt- The Race Against Time”,directed by Vipul Amrutlal Shah, stars Amitabh Bachchan,Akshay Kumar,Priyanka Chopra,Shefali Shah,Boman Irani and Rajpal Yadav.Amitabh Bachchan and Akshay Kumar are back as father and son,in this film, after ”Ek Rishtaa- Bond Of Love”,which was not a big hit. Will this one be a hit?

”Waqt” tells us the story of the relation between a father and a son.The way they deal with each other. The way a father wants his son to make him proud and the dreams which a father has in eyes, regarding his son.Ishwarchand Thakur (Amitabh Bachchan),is the owner of a toy manufacturing company who worked very hard to come at this position from a postman. He has everything what a man needs in life.He has a son,Aditya (Akshay Kumar),and a loving wife,Sumi (Shefali Shah),without whom he is totally incomplete.Ishwarchand expects that his son,Aditya will help him in his business and will take all his responsibilities but Aditya,is a complete spoilt brat and he is not interested in his father`s toy manufacturing company.Instead,he wants to be a film star.Aditya is not so interested in his father`s wishes and his wants. He has many other things in his life, too. He has a girlfriend Pooja (Priyanka Chopra),whom he loves a lot and who loves him, too. Both of them marry each other secretly and then have their honeymoon,as well.Ishwarchand gets shocked to discover such a big secret, but he quietly accepts them.He knows Pooja`s mother and her father Nattu (Boman Irani),as they are his friends and makes sure that Pooja doesn`t have to face any problem,as he expects that this marriage will bring a positive change in Aditya, but actually things get worse after this marriage.Aditya still doesn`t get responsible and remains the same old spilt brat. After lots of confrontations between father and son,Ishwarchand throws Aditya out of his house, along with his pregnant wife, and disallows his son to ever enter his house.Consequently,Aditya and Pooja start living seperately. To earn a good living,Aditya becomes a stuntman and in the meantime he also stars preparing for a star-search contest. The film reaches it finale when the star-search contest takes place and when Ishwarchand comes there.Aditya finds out that Ishwarchand had a very useful purpose and reason for the betterment of his son, behind throwing him out of the house? What was the reason behind doing so?Will Ishwarchand forgive Aditya? Will Aditya manage to fulfill his dreams and become a star?

Amitabh Bachchan is definitely the hero of the film.No doubts, about that!He is back in form after giving a wonderful performance in ”Black”,but he seems to be getting typecast in such sweet father roles.Audiences need something new from him, most probably what he did in ”Black”.We have seen him in such roles, several times in films such as ”Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham”,”Ek Rishta- The Bond Of Love”,”Baghban” and ”Aetbaar”.Though,he performs well,in this film, but he also gets too loud at places.

Akshay Kumar also performs really well, but this performance is nowhere close to his other excellent performances in ”Mujhse Shaadi Karogi” or ”Khakee”.It is also getting boring to see him in such roles,of an ideal son, etc. He is excellent in the scenes, where he has confrontations with his father, but he can do a lot more than this.He should also do some different roles, now.

Priyanka Chopra is just there to add glamour in the film and to dance. Her role doesn`t give her much scope to perform but she still manages to do justice to whatever little she has been offered.

Shefali Shah is a brilliant actress and very underrated one too. With the presence of two superstars,Amitabh Bachchan and Akshay Kumar, she also gives a fantastic performance and makes a position of her own.

Boman Irani isn`t too funny or even impressive this time.He does only one thing throughout and that is keeping an annoyed face expression throughout the film.Rajpal Yadav as the house worker does manages to raise a few laughs but his scenes look as if they are forced into the movie and the comedy element seems to be a waste of time.

Vipul Amrutlal Shah is definitely a good director. His previous film,”Aankhen” was very interesting and even this film, which has such an outdated story is also watchable (nothing more than tha!).There are a few interesting scenes, like the one where Ishwarchand Thakur finds out that Aditya has gotten married to Pooja. The scenes where there are confrontations and small fights between Aditya and Ishwarchand, manage to entertain you but there are some scenes too, which do not interest the viewers,at all.The first half of the film is very boring, with forced and loud comedy and the same old typical “happy family” scenes. The scenes between Ishwarchand and Pooja`s father Nattubhai are also very entertaining, and the scene where Ishwarchand throws Nattubhai in the swimming pool (!!!) is ridiculous.Screenplay is the weakest link of the film. The film just doesn`t manage to grip your attention. The film has very outdated story and seems to be an old wine packaged in a new bottle.Other than the outdated story, there are also some stupid things in the film.I never understood that what was the reason for Aditya to get married to Pooja, secretly.Secondly, the reason why Ishwarchand throws Aditya out of his house, doesn`t seem to be convincing,at all.Why doesn`t ishwar reveal the secret to Aditya? That was stupid.Infact, the climax is a disappointment.Dialogues are really well-written and they are hard-hitting.Without the dialogues, the film would have been nothing and the dialogues are excellent especially in the climax.Editing wa spoor. There are many stupid and unwanted scenes in the first half, which should be instantly deleted.Cinematography is good.
