Waqt- the race against time is the second movie by director Vipul Shah , after casting Amitabh Bachchan and Akshay Kumar is Aakhen.This time Vipul Shah has focussed on a family drama.
Ishwar Chand(Amitabh Bachchan) runs a toy factory and has reached this level with grea difficulty , starting his career as a postman. The role of his wife has been played by Sumi (Shefali Shah). She is a caring wife and a good mother. They have a son called Aditya (Akshay Kumar) to whom, they have provided all the luxuries of life. Ishwar always takes the stride of Aditya when Sumi complains about the way Ishwar has spoilt Aditya. Ishwar wants Aditya to work with him, but being a spoilt brat, Aditya just wants to enjoy with his fathers money. Aditya even gets married to Pooja (Priyanka Chopra) secretly and surprises his parents who have no option but to accept the marriage. But there is no time left. Aditya has to become responsible, independent and earn a living by himself. This is one thing that is bothering Ishwar and Sumi. A secret has been hidden from Aditya. Aditya wants to be an actor (but seems too lazy for it) and Ishwar doesnt want Aditya to know the secret since he doesnt want to be a block in the way of Aditya's career. Priyanka is pregnant. Aditya is given a 2 months time to prove his acting skills and earn a sum of rs.100,000 during these 2 months. Ofcourse, Aditya is not serious about this and then the father and son play a game taking each others position, in which Aditya loses by the end .A serious turn takes place where Aditya is forced to go out of the house and earn a living for himself and his pregnant wife.
What happens next? Is Ishwar just playing games with Aditya or is he serious? What will Aditya do to earn a living? What is the secret being hidden from Aditya?
Amitabh Bachchan has played his role very well(an excellent actor he is). Shefali Shahas Amitabh's wife did seem unfit for him but she has done her part very well and after watching the movie one will feel that she was really good.
Akshay Kumar has not been upto the mark in this movie, unlike his performances in his other movies.
Priyanka Chopra plays a small role. It is really surprising that even though Aditya hates his parents for what they do to him, Pooja still doesnt mind and is friendly with her in-lawseven though she does not know why they are acting like this towards Aditya.
Boman Irani as Pooja's father and Rajpal Yadav as the servant have given the comic timing to the movie. At first you may not understand it but as it progresses its worth a laugh!
The first part of the movie concentrates more on Aditya's and Ishwars relationship and seems like an average fare but the second half has all the elements of an emotional story. Beware- u may cry:)
Overall the film focuses on the bond between the father-son duo. The movie is like any other family movie but not overall great and unique. But Worth a dekho.
