WD seems to have got everything right with this product, except one major drawback which completely destroys the product's capabilities compared with the competition.
The Good thing about it:
It is sleek and lightweight and has huge space [up to 2TB]. It also comes with free backup software. This portable hard drive exhibits maximum performance for transferring files with improved PC performance and a USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 supportable interface. It weighs 234 grams and has a warranty of 2 years. This hard drive needs no external power.
The Real bad feature:
No AUTO-SYNC for files / folders. This is the foundation for any cloud to work successfully. The user has to manually update the cloud and furthermore, My Cloud will not sync data automatically to other devices.At the moment it's not working for me because it has not been able to convert my wired internet to wireless which was the main purpose I bought it.
Now imagine a scenario where I have 5 devices: a Laptop, 2 mobile phones, a tablet and a PC.
If I were to make changes on my laptop to a file in a folder( a folder which one would want to auto-sync with the cloud and all my other devices), I would have to manually update the cloud and then download the same file manually on all devices as well. Imagine keeping a track of all the changes you have done and then remember to download those particular files on all my devices one by one.
I think WD should not call this product My Cloud - My Painful Storage would be more like it.
Its sad to see a good product go to waste just because someone didn't think about the one tiny thing that could render it useless.
No value for money now you decide whether to go for it or not.
