I bought a Voltas split A/C from Dhuri Supervision, Vasai, Thane on 12-05-2005 in the spirit of a ''Be Indian, Buy Indian'' mood inspite of having excellent sales and support experience on buying the Korean varieties (Samsung and LG).
The experience has been nightmarish to say the least. Inspite of receiving repeated assurances from the dealer that the A/C would be installed in a couple of days (he charged Rs 2500 for the same), the technician was always stated to be in transit from the shop to our home for an entire week. When he finally arrived after an eternity, he did a slipshod job leaving a dangling pipe, an unplastered hoole in the wall, a leaking A/C installation and instructions for us to get the electrical connection done at our expense (that cost me Rs 900). He didn't even bother to clean up the mess he left behind. Now I have the unique experience of enjoying the monsoons in summer courtesy the leaking contraption from Voltas. Its been close to three weeks now and I am still waiting for the technician to come back and do it right. If you haven't guessed it, he is in transit from the shop to our home.
When we called up the regional Mumbai Voltas office, a Mr. Dubey absolved Voltas of all guilt by curtly stating that they could not do anything since they were not involved with installation. The concept of a brand guaranteeing a uniformity of experience (sales and support) and service was lost on him. A dealer for Voltas would mean someone who has a space to keep some of their contraptions, a glass window for people to peep in and a door for people to venture in and buy in a state of patriotic dementia. Of course the mistake is entirely mine for straying off the beaten path and doubly so for expecting a decent level of service. Please buy a Voltas A/C only if masochism is your cup of tea or, of course, if you desire a change of seasons. BTW, if anyone bumps into the dealer's technician while he is circumnavigating the globe, please be kind enough to remind him of my leaking cloud of woe.
