I bought Volkswagen Polo 1.2 Trendline Petrol in August 2011. This is my 3rd car. Both of my earlier cars were Marutis. Till date I have driven around 1500 Kms. In the review below I will try to explain both the pros and cons of the car. Let us start with
Pros:
1) The build quality right from exteriors to the interiors of this car is excellent and gives you a premium feel that you usually get in the cars above its segment. Doors are really heavy and Plastics inside are hard. I bet you won't be able to break those easily. Just saw new Maruti Swift today. Believe me, Maruti Swift is no where near Volkswagen Polo in terms of build quality.
2) I have been constantly getting fuel efficiency of 13-14 kmpl from this car in bumper to bumper traffic which I think is extremely good for car this heavy and size. Also keep in mind that Volkswagen claims fuel efficiency of 17 kmpl and getting 14 kmpl on road with new car is extremely good in my opinion.
3) Ride and Handling of this car is superb. Good grip on the road and non bumpy ride even at 100 kms/hr. Thanks to the heavy weight of 1020 kgs. It just holds down tightly to the ground and never look like leaving it even at high speeds.
4) Its is very comfortable to be seated inside this car with body hugging seats and good thigh support. I drive around 70 kms daily and I hardly feel any backaches.
5) Killer looks of this car will make you fell in love with this. The love starts with just an attraction and slowly it will capture your heart and mind. Don't believe me, try it.
6) All the doors and even Fuel Lid opener is centrally locked. Extremely useful feature.
Cons:
I have been driving Marutis from long time and therefore a few features didn't suit me in my initial drives on Volkswagen Polo. Below are the list:
a) Reverse gear is placed like 1st Gear i.e. not backward but forward.
b) Indicators and Wiper switches are placed opposite to that of Marutis.
c) All the doors can be locked from driver seat only. No indiviual locking on doors.
d) The killer cons is that doors are never locked from inside. They are locked only from outside.
Now points a) b) and c) are not much of the concern as you get used to this within 1-2 days of driving. But Point d) is definitely a killer. You will have to depend upon child locking facility strictly if a few children are to be seated on back seats.
Apart from this Volkswagen Polo has set a new benchmark in Indian Auto industry as far as good overall product is concerned. With its excellent build and ride quality, this car is one of the best cars I have owned till date. Believe me, after getting inside this car, you won't even think of getting a Maruti.
