Even though my number is registered in the NDNC Registry I keep getting Unsolicitied Commercial Communications (UCC) through SMS and calls.


Having tired of such repeated instructions, I decided to complain to put an end to all UCC. However, that was easier said than done and I was put on a wild goose chase.


It began well with my number appearing as registered in NCPR which effectively meant that I could complain to my service provider.


However, when I dialled 1909 (VODAFONE COMPLAINT NUMBER) it took 12 minutes for the customer service individual to come on the line and she very matter of factly stated that the call has been directed to the billing department.


After explaining to her the problem she says that since my registration has been done more than 6 months ago, it has expired & I have to register again by sending an SMS with "START 0" to 1909 after which it would take 7 days for the service to be activated.


I sent the SMS only to receive a reply that "FULL DND SERVICE IS CURRENTLY ACTIVE. WE ARE UNABLE TO PROCESS YOUR REQUEST NOW. REQUESTED SERVICE CAN BE ACTIVATED ONLY AFTER DEACTIVATING FULL DND".


Not being one to give up so easily, I used the SMS method as detailed on the site to complain which involves sending an SMS to 1909 in the following format "COMP TEL NO XXXXXXXXX, dd/mm/yy, Time hh:mm".


I sent the SMS too only to receive the following reply from 1909 - WE ARE UNABLE TO PROCESS YOUR REQUEST DUE TO TECHNICAL REASONS. PLEASE TRY AFTER SOME TIME OR CALL VODAFONE CARE ON 111 FOR HELP. WE REGRET THE INCONVENIENCE CAUSED TO YOU.


I now realise that the operators are working hand in glove with the telemarketers as it's a win win situation for them while the customer is harassed unnecessarily.


Please do let me know of anyone has succeeded in registering a DND complaint with VODAFONE.
