On June 30th I received a call to my home number from an Unknown Person(calls herself Priya) she spoke to my wife "Your husband has cheated a multi national company, please meet us tommorow in High Court section 16, He would soon be behind bars." and the line disconnects. This incident is followed by continuous calls repeating the same information and after 5-6 calls, the lady reveals that the company is vodafone.
My wife is in a medical condition and she has to undergo a very difficult phase of stress and agony to find out if I am in a safe position, I received the message from her and I was shocked to hear that news. I try to call back to the number and the person is not ready to reveal the identity, address or any other contact information. She adds to it that she would be sending communication to my company HR and I would soon loose my job.
This again is followed by multiple calls, revealing some additional information every time. Finally I am able to make out that there is an amount of INR 1299 outstanding on a hutch number which I had as a corporate connection in the year 2006 (i have transcripts of email in which I had requested them to close my connection). The caller nor vodafone is able to give me additional information about the charge.
I had to leave my work and drive back home to comfort my wife who is in a terrible situation due to the continuos torturing calls made by this vodafone representative. I reach home and I receive a call which is now in a negotiating mode with a sggestion that the case will be closed if I make the payment by night, they also suggest that they will be sending a person to collect the money. I did not have any supporting documents, valid information or legal note from the caller. I had to call up my company corporate relations person and get the vodafone relationship manager's information, I spoke to him and he was kind enough to give additional information to me and comfort me with apt steps. Next day he pulled out some data which was there on the system, however he also could not get any additional info about the bill and details.
This incident has left a very negative image of Vodafone's moral and ethical policies and principles, I am very sorry to say that if the company continues to nurture such miscreants, it would soon become a less preferred product in market. I think vodafone should change their enterprise systems to support such old data in a much more humane way and not encourage such personal attacks to customers.
