I was recently searching for a good professional institute in Hyderabad to do a Hair Styling & Cutting course. VLCC was on top of my mind. The other contenders were Habib and Loreal(Manae) Academy.
We called the VLCC and then went to the VLCC training centre at SR Nagar to have a look and feel of the training centre. The institute looked good and the lady S who manages it looked suave and smart. We enquired about the course and the fee etc and also had a good look around. The institute looked good especially the environment looked safe for females.
Next we went to the Loreal Academy which is a few hundred metres away. Again we enquired about the training, fee, facilities, training material, trainer etc. The institute did not look better than VLCC to us. The training material did not looked good either. On the face of it it did not look good to us so we eliminated Loreal Academy from our list. Next we searched for the Habib Academy. We called the contact no on the website but many were not working. Fortunately someone picked and he told us that the address mentioned on the website was incorrect and he told us the new address. Talking to him did not give us much confidence, moreover the location was not convenient for us.
We eliminated this option also. Finally I took admission at VLCC. After spending a few months in the Academy below is my assessment of the quality and other aspects of the VLCC training centre at SR Nagar:-
1) If you pay the complete fee in some shot you are eligible for some discount but the lady S at VLCC will not tell you this unless you ask her specifically. Many
students paid the compete fee in one shot but did not get the discount since they were unaware of this.
2) The lady S will tell you that they only take a few students in a batch for any course to maintain quality and bla bla but this is completely false. They take as
many students as possible. Infact they do not make any batches at all. They have something like FIFO (First In First Out) kind of scenario where students are aggregated
based on the course and they admit them throughout. Those who join earlier move out after completing their training.
3) The lady S tells that they have strict control on the quality of training and that their Head Office sends fake students as trainees to keep tab on the quality of
training. This is more of a marketing gimmick.
4) Quality of material/kit provide is very bad. After taking a substantial fee they will provide very substandard training material including dummies for practicing
hair-cuts(infact better ones are available in many shops in SR Nagar). The bag provided is so sub-standard that it won't last even 15 days. The training manual provided is of third grade, infact 100 times better material is available over the web.
5) After sometime instead of focussing on the course you are doing they will start forcing you to also go for another course which they will say will be better and will get you job easily. They will make life miserable for you. They(From Centre Manager to all the Trainers) will pester you everyday for going for the higher course
6) Majority of trainers are really pathetic at VLCC. They pick up their own students or the cheapest one in the market and present them as Trainers. Imagine a trainer who reads from her notes and then trains you everyday.
7) They provide you a locker to keep your stuff but keep one key with themselves. There is high probability that they will replace your kit items with defective ones when you are on leave/vacation. My Hair Blower was taken out, used and broken and then quietly put back without my permission or knowledge.
8) Talking about basic amenities, there is not even one water dispenser, AC's are for display only.
9) Claim of Job Guarantee is totally false. They won't provide reference of even one student whom they have placed.
